Clothesline Fail!

I tried to use my new retractable clothes line today.  I can't get it to stay taut. It was great and locked, until I put our prefolds on it and It is now sagging so low that they are only about three inches off the ground.I keep messing with it and it just doesn't want to stay locked. 

And to top it off my dog really likes the wood smell of the clothes pins and he keeps pulling the pins off the line and running off with them. Major fail!!!

What kind do you have?  Mine has a ring that I tie it around to keep it taught.  How does your lock?

This is what mine looks like.  See the ringish thing there under where it mounts.

Wet prefolds are heavy!  I need to re-stretch my line as well
