Re: How does your typical day go?

  • the first couple months i was at DD's beck and call.  no routine at all!  i'd say at 3 months or so, we were able to start a routine.  wake, eat, play, nap.  wake, eat, play, nap.  etc.  after DD eats sometimes we run errrands, take walks, playdates...  while she naps, i'll jump on the computer, clean, laundry.  as i write this it sounds so boring, but it works and i'm enjoying SAH.  we try to do something outside of the house at least once every day.  DH gets home around 5 pm and he pretty much takes over the nights!
  • 6AM - wake up with DH.  Get laundry started, and eat breakfast.  This is my time to relax.  Take out meat to defrost for dinner that night.

7:45ish - G wakes up and I feed her.  We have playtime in the bouncy or on the playmat.

9:45 - Feed G again, get her changed into daytime outfit.  Go out and get errands done (food shopping, Target, etc).  G takes a nap in the car.

12 - Eat lunch and feed G.  We play together for a while.

2 - Feed G, put her down for the afternoon nap.  Try to cram as many chores into an hour as possible.

4 - Feed G, playtime in the high chair while I start prepping dinner.

6 - DH gets home, I feed G again, then we eat dinner.  DH gives G her bath and gets her into her jammies while I do the dishes.

7:30 - I top G off for the night, and put her to bed.  After this, DH and I relax, watch TV, and hang out.  We go to bed around 9:30/10PM.

  • As DC gets older your routine will change dramatically. When DD was a baby we were up early and I felt like I spent the day feeding her and changing her. When she took a nap in the morning I would too and when she napped in the afternoon I would clean and get dinner ready. I also tried to get out of the house for at least an hour every day.
  • It is completely different depending on what age our kids are. When DS was a newborn I just spent the day trying to keep my head above water. We got more of a "routine" at 4 months old (whcih is when he went to a pretty set 2/3 nap a day schedule we could work around). We got a set "schedule" when he was about 9 months or so (and that changed when he went to 1 nap a day at 15 moths)  Now he is almost 2, and our schedule is:

7:00 AM - everyone wake up. DH watches him while I shower and dress, then I take over

    8:00 AM - breakfast

After that I get DS dressed, clean the kitchen, dry my hair, make the bed, and we are out the door by 9 AM for our "morning activity (gym, a class for DS, a playdate, the museum, etc etc etc)

    11:30/12:00 - Lunch

1-3 (hopfully) - nap. When he naps I vacuum, straighten up, showr again (if we went to the gym), and prep dinner

post nap we usually have another activity (errands, a playdate, etc)

    6:00 PM - dinner

    6:45 PM - bath

    7:30 PM - bed

I do most heavy duty cleaning when DS is napping or in bed.

  • Ha ha ha.... typical day... you're so funny!  :)

I just make sure the little guy gets fed, bathed, changed, played with, and sleeps during a 24 hour period.  If I get to rest, that's an added bonus.

Good luck when you become a SAHM!

Exactly, 100% correct for me, too!

I never left home that first month, except to walk about a mile a day, just to keep my sanity.  I was sore, never could find time to shower/get dressed, felt a bit isolated/lonely and felt like my world was breastfeeding, changing diapers, burping, changing clothes, trying to get rid of Emily's gas and trying to "find myself" as a new mom.  It was a rough month!  Blah!  :(  But, every month that passed brought better and better things and by 4 months old, we had a daily routine that revolved around mealtimes and naptimes... in between, we walked, went shopping, went to the Library and began meeting up with other first time SAHMs at our local parks.  Everything was wonderful by that 4th month!  :)
