Oh great. I've been wanting to tell you how much I enjoy your blog.  I LOVE all the gardening stuff. I am super excited for the weather to break and get outside.

I saw your entry about the Russian Sage. I ordered it a couple of years ago, and it is great. You have to cut it back often, but the color is beautiful. We have it around the light post in the front.  Also, did you order from Spring Hill nursery?  I saw you wrote about the $25 coupon :) I have ordered from there for the past few years and been very happy. My order is scheduled to arrive today!

  • Thanks so much!  The blog is fun but now that I know people follow it, I get nervous that I may run out of things to post!  Luckily, with the weather warming up, I can post garden pictures now.

I'm completely obsessed with gardening.  I wish it was something I could do for a living.  I've been dying to get Russian Sage for a couple of years now and just couldn't find a place for it but I think I can squeeze it in this year.  I did place a huge order from Spring Hill Nursery.  Actually, the catalog I got was for half off everything you ordered!  Thanks for letting me know that you're happy with them.  I've never ordered from them before so I have no idea what to expect.  My order isn't coming until late April but I have a ton to do before those plants arrive anyway.

    What did you order?

This is our third year in this house, and my third order from them.  The perennials keep coming back bigger and better every year, and I am afraid that they are going to be out of control, since I keep adding more every year :)

    This year, I ordered:

-Maximillan sunflowers for the back fence which borders our neighbors. Nothing seems to do well here, and sunflowers typically don't need perfect conditions. So I am hopeful.

-Primrose for under our Japanese Maple in the front. It is really the only shade we have, we get a lot of sun.

-Arizona sun gaillardia for the front. These are BEAUTIFUL. Our house is yeloow, and the colors just go beautifully.

I also ordered one of those perennial grab bags.  It is a bunch of assorted plants. I have a flower bed in the back that I just want to have some color.

I have a lot of lillies both in the front and back, I love them.  Since we have been here, every fall has been something else- pregnant, very cold fall, newborn, that I haven't been able to plant bulbs in the fall. I am so jealous every spring when I see daffodils and tulip. I WILL plant this fall, regardless of what happens!

    What did you order?

I ordered this last year, and they were all so beautiful and healthy. The lupines have such beautiful colors but my H thinks they are crazy looking

  • Everything I ordered is here ...

In addition to that, one of my roses died.  :-(  I was so busy with Sydney last year I just didn't have time to care for them.  On the bright side, I may just buy a lilac to replace it.  I've always wanted one of those too but as I said, space is an issue.

Off to go look at your stuff ...

  • That garden you ordered ... I LOVE delphiniums.  That's another plant I'm trying to figure out how to squeeze in.  I have a thing for that blue/violet/indigo color.  I try to stick with pink, purple and white.

Oooh, I like the primroses.  I'm always looking for shade plants.  The other sun plants are so pretty too!  So colorful!

I so know what you mean about it always being something.  I haven't been able to plant anything in the fall for a couple of years for the same reasons.  In fact, I had poor DH do about 100 tulips one year because I was too pg to bend over!  LOL

I am determined to plant this fall. Even if it means calling out of work and sending the girls to daycare. Ha ha, priorites, right?

Do you plant vegetables? We usually do tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini and eggplant.  Oh, and basil too.

Do you have any potted flowering trees?  I want two of them for my front porch, but haven't found anything yet. I am looking for something either apricot, yellow or red.

ETA:  I also have ordered from QVC, believe it or not. Those plants always seem to do well too.

  • I would totally take a day off and do that.  I've done that before.  Unfortunately, I only work PT so its not that easy for me to do because I don't always have enough hours.

Since I don't have a lot of sun, our veggie garden is VERYsmall.  We only do cucumbers (dd loves them) and tomatoes.  We tried peppers last year, but were unsuccessful.  Not enough light.  I usually do herbs in there as well, but this year, I'm going to have a dedicated herb garden.  I have a rosemary plant that I've had for a couple of years so I'm going to plant that and plant other herbs all around it, like oregano, lots of basil (for pesto), and spearmint (for Mojitos!).

I don't have any flowering trees in pots.  I actually have a peach tree that I had in a pot forever, but it never did anything in the pot.  I planted it in the ground and it started growing like crazy.  Its getting ready to flower now and its so pretty in bloom.  All those blooms become peaches.  The squirrels went nuts last year and ate all the peaches but its fine because its work to spray the fruit and all.  I just like the flowers.  I've been thinking about getting a flowering tree for each side of my driveway as well, but nothing in pots.

Have you considered a crepe myrtle?  You can prune it into a tree form.  My neighbor has a couple in the ground and they're beautiful in bloom.

I'll have to check out QVC too!

An herb garden sounds nice. Just be careful with the mint, it has a tendency to take over everything! But I love have fresh herbs. I usually have them in pots on my deck so I can grab them easily while cooking.

I did see that crepe myrtle at spring hill, but I really don't want pink. My inlaws have a peach tree, and it is beautiful. They had a problem last year with people stealing their peaches, can you believe it?

Great talking to you, I've gotta run, I hear the baby.  Keep up your blog- it's great!
