ETA: Although it sucks because the washer is on the right and the dryer is on the left. The door opens towards the dryer so I have to lifet everything over the door to the dryer and I always drop half of it on the floor. I really wish they had made the doors interchangeable.
I have a GE and it just ate one of dd's socks and cost me $142.00! I can tell you don't get a Kenmore. We bought a "lemon" and it was a biitch to return it.
I love my fisher pakyel it is amazing, fast quick and kinda fun, when it spins out there is almost no h2o left in the clothes and the dry time is faster too
I don't think they make mine anymore but it was whatever the simplest Maytag top loader was at the time. I know I wouldn't use any of the special settings anyway so we don't even bother with them. As long as I can pick the temp and load size I'm happy!
Looks like the cheapest ones now are in the $400's. I though we paid between $600 & $700 for our W/D set but maybe it was more. You know I can't remember crap. Anyway, we had bottom line Maytags in our old house too and have never had ANY problems with either.

i have a fp too and love it. it's a top loader which is what i was looking for. you can run it as traditional or as water saving which is more like a front loader, but for lots less $$$.
Lurker jumping in late- I just got a new Maytag Epic Z front loader on Saturday and I love it so far. It is 3.7 cu ft and I did 4 loads yesterday and it works great. A lot of appliance stores in the Boston area are having a deal until tomorrow (I think) and I got it for $499, about $350 off. Maybe some stores around you are having the same deal.
Re: Please Rec Your washing machine!
I have the LG front loading and I really like it!
