reward for trying to go potty or just going?

dd gets a sticker on her chart if she goes..going to try m and m as well, should she get 1 for trying and 2 for going?  ot just for actually going (been sitting there a half hour and hasnt gone after 2 glasses of milk/water

We did rewards only for going...1 chocolate chip for #1, 2 for #2.

I did a reward (stickers) for just sitting.

1 green star for sitting and not doing anything.
2 blue stars for peeing.
3 red stars for pooping.

After 15 stars we achieved (a box was filled) then he got a treat of his choice.  At the time his treat of choice was a Go Tart.  He loved it.  His immediate reward was getting to put the sticker on the chart himself.

I found that giving rewards for trying was tricky. Ethan got smart and would squeeze out a tiny bit of poop to get the reward. But then he'd take his real dump in his diaper. LOL.

So we had to give rewards for dry/clean pullups instead.
