I can probably take my 2yo to a funeral home, right?

It's immediate family, and I have a feeling they will all want to see him to lighten the mood a bit.  It's also out of town, so I was going to bring him with me overnight. My aunt had inoperable cancer, but they told her about 3 years ago that she only had about 12-18 months, and she made it this far. My uncle is devastated (sp)....I've lost both of my parents, so he was the one that walked me down the aisle at my wedding, and I need to be there for him.

In this case, do you think I could take Matthew with me?  He's a good kid, and obviously I would leave if he started acting up.

Happy 4th birthday!

  • I would. Our DD is 2.5. She has been to a few viewing with us. We take her only because there is no one else to leave her with. No one seems to mind. There always seems to be a few kids at each that we have went to.

  • I took DD to my g'fathers funeral when she was 19 months - this was also an OOT funeral and a passing that was not unexpected. She did great, many people loved having her there, especially other older children who were not so much at ease wiith the whole death/sadness thing. Other people who were perhaps too absorbed in the grief to try to be involved with a small child just sort of passed over her presence - which was easy to do, she behaved beautifully. If she had been acting up I would have removed her immediately.
  • For sure take him!!  I think it's totally acceptable when it is family.  I'm sorry about your Aunt.
