Babies on the Brain

Babies and Sports

Did/do any of you do intense sports while pregnant? Here is my problem, DH and I would like to start TTC this Fall/Winter, but I am in the process of preparing for the 2012 Olympics in an equestrian event (dressage, no jumping). I know of at least one person who rode (and got the gold) while 4 months pregnant, but realistically....I will have a lot of competing and training to do.  Should I just go ahead and TTC/have the baby 2009/2010 and still spend 2011 competing in qualifiers, or should I just wait until it is all over in 2012?

Re: Babies and Sports

  • Personally I'd wait. The chance to compete in the Olympics is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

  • It would depend on my age. ?I'm 30 and DH is 42, so I wouldn't put it off. ?I would if we were younger, though.

  • :-) Age is part of my questioning what to do. I'll turn 29 just before the olypics and DH will turn 37.  My other option is just kind going with the flow of things and if I get pregnant, then go for the 2016 olympics instead.

    If 2016 is a possibility, that's something I'd think about. ?

And let me just clarify that we're not in a hurry because we're worried about not being able to conceive because of our age, DH just doesn't want to be 50 when our kids are in pre-school. :)?

  • Our age issue is similar DH wants to "still be young" when the kids are young.
  • Well, that depends on the age of the horse in 2012 :-). The horse I am currently riding will be retired by 2016, but my youngster will be only 12...so that would work fine.
  • He is young, yes, but he is moving up the levels very well (doing the FEI Young Horse competitions now) and has the quality of movement...so, provided something bad doesn't happen, he will start the international scene in 2012 at GP, which will give him 4 years of the big competitions under his belt.  And, honestly, if by 2012 he is just not going to make it....I'll get something else and he will still be an excellent breeding stallion. ;-)
