Ok, my boys are going to be here soon and I am not content with the nursery as it is thus far. It's very boring!
Anyone who can help-with ideas, web sites, whatever-I appreciate anything y'all can give me.
So far it's a light blue (Sherwin Williams' Blissful Blue) on the top parts of the walls with a white wainscot around the room and a white chair rail on top of that. The nursery furniture (2 cribs and a dresser/changing table combo) is a dark (almost like mahogany, I guess) brown. The recliner, which hasn't arrived yet, is a beige colour (but mostly b/c we wanted it to be neutral for when we don't need it in the nursery and can move it out into the l.r.). We didn't register for any bedding b/c my thinking is they never really use it anyway and we have aunts making quilts for us blah blah blah.
The ideas I'd had - painting coloured squares (in my blues, browns, whites and orange I had chosen) around the room got ixnay'd by my dumb husband who fancies himself a decorator now.
I need artsy touches for the walls, art, whatever! Something to spice up the room a bit. I don't want to go obvious and do a theme (no sports or monkeys or anything car/construction), I just want some pizzazz.
Oh and while you're thinking about it, what colour would you do for a carpet in there? Right now it's just hardwood floor.
Anyone got any ideas?? I'm desperate here!
p.s. the oranges were being thrown into the room decor b/c my husband is a Texas Longhorn and I knew we'd get a lot of Longhorn junk from family and friends...and we have, so I thought rather than fight it, I'd go with it.
Re: need "artsy" help in nursery
Look on Etsy! They have lots of great artwork.
I wouldn't put new carpet in there over hardwood. Not only b/c I'd kill for hardwood floors, but b/c carpet off gasses chemicals and toxins for quite some time and putting new carpet (unless eco friendly type) in a nursery isn't the best idea.
Oh, I guess I mean an area rug then. We don't plan on sticking anything to our floors! We'll have a soft backing for it so it doesn't scuff up the floor, but we want something soft on the floor to make it so it isn't so loud (we're on pier and beam) or cold.
Etsy is very overwhelming, but I'll give it a shot.
thanks.
I agree with the pp- I would keep the wood floors and just find an area rug for in there.
Here's the artwork we're going with...this etsy seller has lots of cute stuff.

i think the room sounds really cute! Etsy is a good idea. OR I really love the idea of framed scrapbook or specialty wrapping paper. Get matching frames in white or the dark wood & go get some nice patterend paper incorporating the different blues browns & even the orange. frame them and hang them in the room. I think that would look great! And not too themey or babyish. You could also do some photography of the babys after they come
Esty.com or Mauranda.UppercaseLiving.net
GOOD LUCK!

What about a decal with baby's initials/name? I found one on etsy that I am putting above the crib. They have many different styles on etsy..Also, do you have window treatments yet? Window treatments and bedskirts for cribs can add a little color, even if you are not doing the quilt, etc. I am also putting up a couple of 3' and 5' shelves on the walls where I will put pics, stuffed animals, etc. You could some of your Longhorn stuff up there!
For prints I ordered a couple from art.com and bought frames at AC MOORE and painted them.
If you go to hgtv's rate my space, they have a lot of cool ideas and pics. Good luck!
Great ideas, y'all! I do like the one with the scrapbook paper--there are lots of cute papers out there. And shelves, need shelves!
Ok, I need my helpers now! Thank you very much everyone.
I like the idea of these flor tiles to make a rug. They have some really fun looking modern designs that you can mix and match.

If you aren't into cutesy themes (I'm not either!) but don't want to paint on the walls maybe you could find a cool decal on etsy, or frame some cool papers like a mural along one wall. I've seen people blow up photos, then have them cut down into 8 X 11 pieces and hang them on the wall. It makes an interesting piece of art. Good luck, love the color choice by the way!
I love Project Nursery for inspriation
https://projectnursery.com/ the real rooms are amazing and they give product info so if you like something you can track it down.
I'm currently looking like crazy for something with tones of blue, orange and brown (DH is a METS fan but I don't want a sports theme and blue/orange is too bright for me so I want to throw in borwn and aqua)....Need to post for help.
GL, I'm sure it will be beautiful!
