I saw your post below. I had an open abdominal myomectomy last month (Feb. 9). I've had a large intramural fibroid and some smaller ones for 9 years. I was pg twice and lost both pg - all docs agree that they were not caused by the fibroids. We have been seeing a RE for over a year, who did not believe the fibroids would impact me getting or staying pg since my cavity looked good. Despite this, I haven't been able to get pg. During my last injectables cycle, u/s showed the intramural fibroid had completely closed off my uterine cavity. I scheduled the myomectomy.
During the surgery, the RE discovered my right tube was completely blocked by the large fibroid and all my organs were shifted to the right side of my body. He removed 5 fibroids and some endometriosis. Fortunately he did not have to cut into the uterine cavity. I spent 3 days in the hospital. The pain was not too bad, but the naseua and dizziness from the anesthesia administered during the 3 hour operation were debilitating. We were told we could ttc the next cycle. I decided I wanted another month to recover. I have AF now, so we are going to start ttc this month. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. GL!

Thank you so much for posting this! I'm so glad to hear your myo was successful and that you're ready to start trying again.
My doc told me that while my cavity looked good on the saline u/s, they really can't tell how the fibroids are impacting the uterine shape and surrounding organs till they're actually in there and can see it in 3-D.
It's just so murky. That's the part I hate the most.
How long were you out of work? Are you back to your pre-op lifestyle (exercise and all that)?
It really is murky when it comes to intramural fibroids. I struggled with whether to have the surgery or not for a very long time. The decision was made for me when I suddenly had no cavity. I hope you are able to make a decision and find peace with whatever you decide to do. They had no idea the extent mine was affecting other organs until they were in there. Guess that explains all the pinching and pain I felt everyday!
I resigned from my job the day before I found out I needed surgery to be a SAHF(oster)M. I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks, so I took those weeks completely off. I would not have been ready to return to work until week 5. I just could not get through the day without needing a nap. I think my recovery was delayed though due to lifting/carrying my 32lb foster son. I was not ready to start working out until week 6. It took several weeks for the nausea and motion sickness feeling to go away and to get my energy back. I don't think thats the norm though.
GL with making your decision. I'm happy to answer any questions you have. You can page me here or email me at beccals2 at yahoo.
