Metformin question

I have taken metformin 500mg for the past 2 months. Had my first RE appt last wednesday & he wanted me to up my dosage. I picked up my new script yesterday for Metformin ER (extended release) 500 mg. The directions say take 1 pill at night for 1 wk, 2 pills for 1wks 3 pills for 1wk & then eventually I will be do 4 pills on the 4th week totally 2000mg. My question is since I have already taken 500 mg for 2 mos, should I start out taking 1000mg a day or since this is the ER kind take one pill for a week.?

Good question. ?I might split the difference and do 500mg for 2 or 3 days and then go up to the 1000mg for the rest of that week and the next. ?I did the same thing and I take 2000mg of the ER too.

My last script was the metformin hcl 500mg which the pills where small & round like an aspirin & this met er are HUGE like a motrin 800 is that right? I thought the ER would be better on my stomach due to mild s/e & the higher dose but I'm not good at taking such huge pills. I can't see taking 4 of those without gagging on them yikes!

Yes, that's right. ?Exactly the same size an 800mg Motrin and my PNV. ?I can actually take 2 of them at a time, but I don't have a problem with swallowing big pills. ?GL!
