OMG! I finally get to post a baby picture and birth story! ![]()
That picture was taken at our first alone moment after everyone left in the hospital. I have tons more pictures to upload where you can see his sweet face. I will do that this week!
So...Jacob's birth story:
I went into the hospital on Wednesday, the 18th to get the Cervidil gel to start the induction. The next morning they checked me and I was only 1cm dilated, but I was starting to contract, so that was good news.
Around 11:30am, they started the pitocin and the contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart.
At 1pm, my doc came in to check me and I was only 1.5cm dilated, but I was completely effaced. She broke my water and the fun began.
It was unbelievable...with the first contraction after breaking my water it was so very painful. Each one was worse than the next one. So, I opted for an epidural which was awesome and I took a nap. That was the best thing I could have done for myself. I was so exhausted and I knew that I would need my strength for pushing.
Around 3:45 I started to feel contractions again. They came back to check me and I was FULLY dilated and was ready to go! I couldn't believe it. The rest really helped me dilate and get ready for labor.
My doctor wasn't available until about 5pm to deliver because of other moms in labor. So, I started pushing at 5. It was hard to figure out what the right kind of pushing was, but I was really eager to get him out.
Jacob Peter was born at 5:25pm, after just 25 minutes of pushing.
When he was born, I started crying from the relief of everything and of course when they placed him on my chest I couldn't control my emotions. He was just so precious.
We're trying not to dwell on the scary time that he spent in the NICU in the days that followed. He's home now and everything is going really well. He's breastfeeding like a champ and going 3-4 hours in between feeds - especially at night.
He looks exactly like Adam. I just love looking at them. And it just melts my heart to see the two of them together. Sometimes I just become overwhelmed with emotion that we are finally a family.
