Infertility

Medicated IUI cycles (after Clomid).. I need info

So I had a second follie check today. ?Nada, zilch, zero, for-get-about-it...

<sigh>

I have a follow up Monday with my doc, but I spoke with another doc in the clinic today (who I'm thinking I actually like better than my regular doc!) about ovarian drilling, and their theory is that its not great for fertility use, but more for just regular ovulation use.

They really think I should try injectables. ?Sadly enough, I'd rather have the surgery seeing as 2 months of med = $$ for surgery. ?But I guess I will give the shots a go.

I obviously won't know what kind of injections I'll be on until monday, but can you gals give me some ideas of what they started you on/what doses? Also, how often/long were the injections?

DH and I are just trying to get a ball park figure of what this is all going to cost so we have a goal for our winnings at the casino tonight (DH's words, not mine LOL)

?

TIA?

Re: Medicated IUI cycles (after Clomid).. I need info

  • I was on Gonal F. I respond relatively quickly to drugs so was only on it for 6 nights at the longest point through all my IUIs. I am not really sure that is the norm.

Usually the injections start on CD3 and you do them once a night until you are ready for a trigger. I used ovidrel for a trigger.  The dose I was on for all 3 IUI was 75 units. I usually only needed one Pen per cycle.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • Just a story of hope...a friend of mine had the same results on Clomid, she started injectables (debated like you are) and her first cycle she got pregnant with triplets, she had about 8 follicles when the IUI was complete.

I know decisions are so hard!  Good luck!

TTC #1 since 12/07 SA 9/08=borderline normal HSG 1/09 found R tube blocked Multiple IUIs both with oral and injectible drugs from 2/09-2/11 Started domestic adoption process in 5/10, homestudy complete 9/10 Failed adoption after home with baby for 2 weeks 11/10 Blessed through the miracle of private adoption with a son, born 6/6/11 (his grandma's bday) 7lbs 9oz 20.5 inches long! So worth the wait!
  • I too had the same thing with clomid, even on 250mg, nothing ever happend.  I just had my first cycle on injectibles, follistim, and I resonded well.  I started low at 75 iui, then to 100, then 125 then back to 100.  I had 2 Iui's this week and go back on 4/8 to see if it worked.  It was exciting, though I was scared at first of the shots they were not that bad and it was just a relief to see that I was finally responding to something. Luckily our insurance covered the medication but if not its about $1000 a vial and I had to start on a 2nd one during my treatment.
  • For my IUIs I used Gonal-F - cycle #1 I started on 150 IU and was increased to 225 IU (1 good follie, one so-so).  Cycle #2 started at 225 IU and I think I might have been increased again to 300? (5 follies).  Then I moved onto IVF, where I was on Bravelle, 450 IU every day.

Most people stim from 8-12 days before trigger.  As you can see from pp's, everyone responds differently.  It depends on so many things.  Get a consult with the doctor you like and see what they really recommend.  Ask what meds they'd prescribe you and the dosage they would start with.  Then plan worst case of 12 days of stims at that dose level and start calling specialty pharmacies and see what prices they give you.  Everyone's insurance is different, and OOP prices can vary widely.  Good luck!  I would take injectible meds over clomid any day - way less side effects.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
