We had been feeding Reagan 4 oz of formula every 3-4 hours. (She goes for a longer stretch--anywhere from 6-8 hours--at night). However, lately she has begun to cry when the bottle is empty, so last night we offered her 6 oz and she drank the entire bottle. I don't want her to be hungry but I also don't want to overfeed her. How much does/did your 4 mo old take at a time? I'm going to bring this up at her pedi appt in two weeks as well.

Re: How many ounces does/did your 4 mo old drink at a time?
How much does she weigh? There's a formula feeding daily average per weight.
weight (in lbs) x 2.5 = daily formula intake
Divide that by the number of feedings and that reflects the "average" ammount of formula she should take.
There's a similar formula for breastfed babies too, but the factor is different.
Again, these are just averages and cap off at 14lbs. After that intake doesn't grow much.

I had no idea about this formula! Thanks! DD weighs about 12.5 pounds so I guess she should be eating between 31-32 ounces a day.
You're welcome. Again, as I said -- this is average. Your DD may not need as much, she might need more, but it's just an idea. I'm guessing she's eating around 26oz now based on what you mentioned above. Up it my 6oz for the day and see what happens.
I know G stops eating from the bottle at day care when he's done. I don't know how BM and Formula are different for babies, but I'd like to think that a baby will stop eating when they're full on their own.

I feel terrible that I haven't been feeding her enough. From now on we will offer her 6 oz and see how it goes from there. Thanks again!
