"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
I have to whisper because so many people love the E.A.S.Y. method (eat .. activity .. sleep .. YOU time) ... but nursing a baby to sleep (or in my case, giving him a lovely warm bottle because I ep and supplement) is the most natural thing in the world (well, maybe not the bottle part but you know what I mean.)
There's a reason why it's so easy to get babies to sleep during or right after a feeding. That's what they DO .. they eat and then get drowsy and sleepy. Sucking soothes them - it's instinct. Not something you need to beat out of them as quickly as possible. IMO.
Wheee!

i also agree with what LucyPevensie said....it is instinct.
although its funny cause max will go to sleep for night without nursing. he gets really fussy during his last feeding (thats how i know its time for bed) and dh does the 5 s's to get him to sleep. but for going back to sleep in middle of night and for naps its milk coma or bust!

I'm a big Baby Whisperer fan, so I just have to add my (probably unwanted) two cents... people say she is anti-BF, but she's really not. In fact, she was an LC here in CA. She just talks about the fact that formula feeding is just fine, and that a lot of women feel pressured unnecessarily to BF- a HUGE issue here in Los Angeles where there are actually pediatricians who won't take your child on if he/she is FF.I don't think that her giving equal time and consideration to FF and BF moms and talking about the pros/cons of both makes her anti-BF.
As for not nursing to sleep, she's actually fine with a bottle or breast right before bed- its just during the day you should follow EASY so that they learn not to associate eating with sleeping. For reflux mamas like me, this can be a godsend, as I need to keep DS upright and unmoving for 20-30 minutes after a meal or he's miserable.
Re: Iris..which sleep book was bad for bf?
It was the "No Breastfeeding Sleep Solution".
tee hee
