Success after IF

Oh, my...time for a new Dr.!

So I had my second appointment with my OB today.  HORRIBLE experience.  The whole appointment lasted 6 minutes!  She answered my questions quickly (no explanation-without eye contact while looking for something in the cabinet)...sigh.  She found the heartbeat and moved on quickly.  (no discussion of bpm or a comment like "sounds good").  When I asked her the bpm...she guessed (b/c she claimed the doppler did not have a 'reader') 170.  Hmmm.  Very scientific.  I would have even felt better if she pretended to count or at least looked at her watch.  NOPE.  love it!

That was it.  "See you in 4 weeks".  Sigh.  Yes

This is the same Dr. that said to me on the first visit (while looking at my chart)..."oh it looks like you got pg  pretty easily".  Hmmmm.  Good bedside manner.

The minute we got in the hallway...my very mild mannered DH said "I am so ANGRY..that's it...I could have done that".  haha.  He never gets mad or loses his cool...so it actually made me laugh really hard.

Needless to say....I made an appointment with a new OB.   The new OB wants to see me earlier than what the horrible OB requested...and he wants an earlier u/s. Smile

Re: Oh, my...time for a new Dr.!

  • I had to change OBs as well.  I actually left my first OB in tears.  I wish our REs could take care of us during PG as well :(.  It's better that you changed now.  I hope your new OB is soo much better :)

  • I would be so annoyed also.  I switched OBs after my 1st appt.  The OB told me I should lose weight during my PG, ummm, hello?  Sure, I am overweight, but lose weight.  That isn't healthy.  Anyways, I did switch and now have a wonderful OB.  Love her.  Don't be afraid to change if you aren't comfortable with your care.    I am a firm believer that you have to be happy with your doc and it is your right to switch whenever.  I used to be afraid to get 2nd opinions or seek a new doctor.  I felt like I was cheating on my original doc, or that I didn't trust her.

I am glad to hear that you have a new OB that you are already more comfortable with.  Yay!

Also, I also had a shocker going from the RE to the OB.  There were so many appts and lots of attn with the RE and the OB was much quicker and my appointments were very uneventful (thankfully).  It was a difficult transition...

    Nothing to see here....
  • I don't know how you didn't say anything. I would have been rude right back. You should find somewhere to "review" her!

  • What a personal experience! It's like, don't let the door hit you in the *ss on the way out :)

May I ask, were you referred to this OB specifically by your RE or a friend?

I've received a referral to an OB {from my dermatologist of all people!} who only accepts other MD referrals.

Anyway, I want to find back up  - just in case. You just never know what the personality is going to be like.

I want to look forward to the appointments - no doubt you feel the same!

  • good for you - move on.  I loved my ob, she spent so much time and never rushed me.  Her NP was the person I had to "deal w/."  6mos into ttc, I brought up my concern that it was taking so long and she patronizingly said, "oh, you'll be preggers by October."  Yeah, October TWO YEARS LATER!!!  But w/ my high risk pg, I only saw the OB during all my visits

My RE gave me a list of 3 different Dr.'s.  I haven't announced to any friends or family yet about the pregnancy...so I just went with the Dr. closet to my house.  Sigh.  My RE is wonderful ....so somewhat surprising.  Could be just the difference of my RE's style to the OBs.  But yikes.  Horrible experience.  We should look forward to our appointments.  :)
