Success after IF

Need to talk something out with you ladies..

Backstory..My boss granted me my part time (3-630) because I wanted to spend a majority of time with my girls.  She also granted 15 weeks of leave (we are a small center so don't have employees to qualify for fmla).  I demoted myself as well.

Today she says she's working on staffing/enrollment for Sept and she wants to know if I'm willing to take resume my old position and classroom.  This would mean 830-530 and lesson plans.  My girls could attend for a discounted rate of $387.00/week.  Thats A LOT for me.  Over half of my paycheck but part of me wants my classroom back and wants to dive back into work.  There is another daycare around the corner from my house that is cheaper and dh would pick them up when he is out of work so they wouldn't be in daycare all day but I don't know how much that is.

Dh said that he doesn't agree with the hours but my boss is pretty set.  She said shed work on a 430 classroom but no promises.

Im sure I will miss them like crazy but I imagine that it will make me an even better mom.  Anyway I have all weekend to think about but I honestly don't know which way to go :(

  • Such a tough decision...  How are you feeling about leaving the girls for the extra hours?  That would be the key factor for me (assuming $ isn't an issue).  Will your current part time position be available if you decide you don't want to go back full time?

Do you only have the weekend to decide?  Good luck!

  • For me I think it would come down to money and my desire to work. If you love your job and think you will be ok leaving your girls during the day (not saying you wont miss them like crazy, but think you will be able to adjust to the time apart) then I say go for it! If you dont think you will like leaving the girls that much, and money is fine right now then I would just stick with the current schedule. I do work full time (well 2 days from home and DS is with me one of those days) and it was hard to leave him but we both adjusted well after time! He loves going to day care now. At first I really liked working and was glad that I was. Now as time goes on, my job is very demanding and requires more time than I can give it so I get very stressed a lot. Now I wish I could SAH. But if I had a job that didnt require so much OT (was more of a 9-5 so to speak) I think I would like it much better. Good luck with your decision!
  • I guess it's more flexible and there will be days that I can leave early.  It's just going ALL day without seeing them.  I know it's good for them to interact with other children and we will have the weekends.  If it was until 430, I think I'd be head over heels excited about it.  Who knows..

  • I think it's lame your girls can't go for free.  WTH?  Jeezus if you work at a college your kids can attend for free - and that's tens of thousands of dollars.
    Wheee!
