Ideas for a Swear Jar

I never used to be a swear-er, and I really don't enjoy it. Somehow, in recent years I have been swearing more and more, but I want to stop before LO is born. In fact, given that LO can hear soon, even though I know he/she can't understand, I don't really want it to be how I am talking.

So, I'm pretty much always short on cash, so putting a quarter or whatever into a jar just isn't going to work for me. What can I do instead?

I'm thinking to take one of DH's 'chores' away (do the dishes after making dinner, take out the garbage, etc.).

Any other bright ideas?

Re: Ideas for a Swear Jar

  • Shut the fvck up - a SWEAR jar?

    ?

    oops couldn't resist.?

  • Loading the player...
  • No ideas but GL! DH would be watching TV 24/7 if I was to do that. I don't do it around parents, grandparents, etc. so I don't think I will have a big problem around LO but it would be really hard for me to quit.
  • I had a friend who wore a rubber band around her wrist when she wanted to quit bad habits. So everytime you swear you have to pull the rubber band and snap it against your wrist. I don't think it was really painful or anything, but kind of brings about more awareness of your habit and then slowly but surely you'll start to stop.
  • I'm not sure if you're religious or not, but one idea that I've heard other friends use is making a really short note about what set you off (made you swear) and then doing a devotional reading that's on topic about it and handling the situation in a better way. You don't have to have a fancy devotional book; using biblegateway.com or something similar to look up keywords for situations works just as well.

If you're not religious, what about restricting sweets/reward foods that are bad for you? I'd be able to stop swearing real fast if I was going to deny myself my next cookie or ice cream craving!
