Babies: 9 - 12 Months

refusing to nap but not crying

Ever since my DS started crawling and pulling up he's been refusing to nap. No crying (so I'm not sure sleep training would help) just crawling from one end of the crib to the other, pulling up, crawling back, pull up again. I let him go 30 minutes or so before deciding its a failed attempt. He gets tired, yawning and rubbing his eyes but as soon as I put him down he's wired again. I've tried giving him more awake time so that maybe he'll be more tired but its pretty much the same. And of course, after almost no naps hes a mess by evening. Not sure what to do here. Night sleep is still good, 11ish hours. Any advice?

Re: refusing to nap but not crying

  • Yay that Asher is crawling!  But that's no good that he's not napping.  I don't have any advice, you are already doing what I would have said to try- keep him awake longer.

    Good luck! :)

  • DS start doing the exact same thing when he was around 8.5 months. But I just let him play in his crib for as long as he wanted. Sometimes he would eventually get tired and go to sleep. Other times he would play for 45 minutes and then scream until I got him back up. But there is hope! DS only did this for about 2 weeks and then went back to his regular 2 naps a day. I think he was just so excited that he could crawl around and play that he wanted to explore his crib!
