Would you spell it Claire or Clare? DH loves it, so I think we are going to use it for Natalie's middle name. He says it's spelled Clare, I have only known it spelled Claire. Maybe the Clare spelling is a British thing?
Sorry about that! It's from the Breakfast Club. I was going to add that I actually really love the name Claire but it makes me giggle every time because of that quote.
I'm wondering if Clare is a catholic thing? I could be totally wrong, but the Catholic health care system I work for is building a new hospital and it's called St Clare (spelled without an i). Though, I definitely prefer Claire.

I love the name Claire and wanted to use it with DD, but DH nixed it. It's my Confirmation name and spelled Clare. I prefer Claire, but the saint's name is Clare of Assisi, so that's how I had to spell it. I don't think either spelling is right or wrong, both are accepted spellings.
Clare and Claire are equally used in Britain I think. I know people from school and uni with both spellings. It really isn't a cultural thinhg, the Claire is slightly more frenchified and the clare less so, if you can say that when the name's origin is french! But the word clair is the derivation.
I much prefer Clare to Claire.
Partly because my best friend at primary school was Clare and DHs ex-girlfriend was Claire.
But also because I just don't like pretentious looking names like Claire. Clare is simple.
Also I remember Heidi's friend Clara and Clare is more like Clara.

I've always seen it spelled w/ an i but with a middle name I'm more accepting of alternate spellings.
When I saw the title of your post the first thought thru my head was
"Claire?"
"Yes, it's a family name."
"No, it's a fat girls name."
What movie is that from ... I remember that quote but not where it came from.
The Breakfast Club!
I prefer Claire.
