I've Been Drinking RUSTY Water!

Our hot water went out yesterday.  $4800 later and a new system connected -- we have cleaner water.  Our old one had rusted out after FIVE years of use!!!  We live in a townhouse that was built in 2005 so this is a SHOCK to us.  I can't believe that we were drinking that and cooking with that water.  Luckily the little girl is still growing okay -- I can't believe that I was living like that while pregnant!!!  Would you call your OB about this?  I am not sure there is much they can do or if I was really putting my baby at risk??

Ewww. I'd call & ask the nurse just in case. I just drink bottled water b/c our tap tastes like crap, even with using a brita or pur filter.

I would let your OB know, but I dont think its a big deal.  Our water pump- or seomthing- went out at my folks house when I was 16.  And there was bacteria in the drinking water and rust, that had been there for a while, but we didnt' know.  They told us it was okay since we had been drinking it the whole time.  And that elderly shouldn't drink it, but everyone else would be okay.  Hope that helped, GL!

The rust isn't going to hurt you or her.  It's just iron.  That's why they say it's good to cook in cast iron skillets because it increases the iron in your food.  The question might be --why did it rust out after five years??  You might want to call the water dept in your town and get a copy of the contents (minerals/chemicals) of your water.

 PS--weren't you waiting on some test results from the dr or another test?  I wasn't sure if I had missed a post on the results.
