BF/pumpers ?

I am going out of town tomorrow afternoon till sunday late afternoon(so just over 24 hours) and i will need to pump while im gone.  I only have a manual pump(that works great when im engorged) but its not the greatest for the every 4 hour feeding.  Should i just go ahead and still pump every 4 hrs or go longer in between sessions so its not uncomfortable.  Do u think this will mess up my supply?

Re: BF/pumpers ?

  • When I was away from Preston I always stayed with the same schedule that he nursed on. I was too afraid that my supply would drop, if I didn't.
  • If it is just 24 hours I think it would be fine to pump maybe every 5-6 hours. If you already have good milk production it shouldn't mess up your supply. There were a couple days here and there that I was away from DS and I honestly didn't pump until I was engorged and it never once messed up his schedule. It is kind-of made on a supply and demand basis any way. :) Think of it this way, have there been days where he's nursed more or less than normal?? Their nursing schedules are going to fluctuate anyway and your body will always compensate for it.

i would just pump as needed.  I left DS at 12 mos and had to pump every 2-3 hours (he nursed a ton).  When I left him at 17 mos I only had to pump every 12 hours.
