How to get child used to crib?

I'm begining to worry that ds will outgrow his bassinet before he is ready to move to the crib.  He was already at 3 weeks 11lb4oz and it only goes up to 15lbs.  The problem is, everytime he goes in the crib he wakes up within 5 minutes very upset.  Do I just keep trying to put him in there for naps in hopes that he becomes more familiar with it?  Any advice would be helpful.

  • I usually just lurk on here, but I saw your post and thought I'd reply :)  Someone recently gave me a great book called "Good Night, Sleep Tight" by Kim West.  It has really great information in there about each stage of babyhood, how much sleep they should be getting, and how to get them to fall asleep and stay asleep.  It might be helpful to you.

    Good luck!

  • P.S. Love your baby's name!  We considered that for our little guy :)
  • Put him in there to play, them for naps, then for night sleeping about a week at a time. I did HSH and got J STTN at 4w. Some kids need to fuss or cry (NOT CIO) for a few minutes before going to sleep. J does it loudly for about 5m then passes out. C did the same thing. It does not mean something is wrong, just the nervous sytem decompressing.
  • i highly recommend the "no cry sleep solution"..it helped us out a ton!! DD had exactly the same issues, and now sleeps on her own for most of the night at 3 months.

So if he were in there decompressing, which I know he needs to do, do I stay in there with him and comfort him without picking him up?  Do I stay in there and just let him be?  Should I just be completely out of the room?  It's just so frustrating that he will be completely asleep and if he went in the bassinet he would be fine but in the crib he wakes.
