Starting dairy?

I am getting ready to start my girls on some dairy, but I don't know what to start with.  What kind of dairy did you all start with with your little ones?  Yogurt, cheese, something else?  They're 9 months old today and according to the paperwork we got from the doctor's office they should start on dairy by 9 months, so I want to start them on it.  Also, when did you feed it to them?

Right now we do 3 solid meals a day- fruit & cereal for breakfast, veggies & cereal for lunch and then a stage 2 meal & cereal for dinner.  When should dairy be thrown in?  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: Starting dairy?

  • What is a stage 2 meal?  Like the veggie soup or are you doing the beef and chicken?  I'm so confused when to start this stuff Confused

As to your question, now that the girls are (mostly) out of their reflux, we are going to start yo baby yogurt (when they turn 9 months).  We started at 6 months but it was wayy to soon for them and made them spit up even more.

My dh bought the baby food mac n cheese.  Not sure when I'm going to try that.

    Good luck!

  • I think I either started with shredded cheese or yo baby yogurt. I started at 7.5 months and the yogurt helped clear up a diaper rash!!!!

He LOVES dairy and now I have to think of non dairy things to give him to eat.

Crap I don't know what the rest of your questions were... I'll go back and see if I have more answer for you!

  • My pedi specifically told us about yo baby yogurt.  Gavin loved it at the time...it comes in lots of different flavors.
  • Cool.  I had to go to Trader Joe's and just happened to pick up some Yo Baby Yogurt while I was there.  i think the girls will be having yogurt for breakfast tomorrow!
  • We started with YoBaby, also, but I prefer to buy the plain, which can be harder to find.  The flavored ones have added sugar, which irks me.  We just stir in some fruit ourselves, and it's perfectly sweet and yummy!  DS loves it.  :)

Really though, any whole milk organic yogurt will do.  We've tried several.

We just tried cheese recently.  He likes it but not as much.
