False positive on a digital HPT?

Any guesses here.?

?I'm a test addict. And even though I know I shouldn't, yesterday I tested at 10 DPO. All I had was the "bonus" First Response Digital (yes/no type) that came in a pack of regular tests. I was expecting to get the negative out of way for the day, so I could go to work without distraction. It came back an unmistakable YES! I was shocked and ecstatic, but also little bit cautious. Wasn't sure if I could trust it. I took a camera-phone photo of it just to make sure it was real.

After floating on a cloud all day, ?I got BFNs with regular line tests last night and this morning.

Anyone heard of a false positive on a digital? Is it possible to over-soak it and get a misleading result. ?I don't believe a chemical pregnancy would disappear so soon.

I know all I can do is wait and see. I guess I'm venting more than anything else.?

Re: False positive on a digital HPT?

  • I've heard that false positives are rare but false negatives are not.  So you are 11DPO today, right?  If you can wait until you are 14DPO and test again that would give you a better idea.

  • I always thought that digitals were LESS sensitive. A false positive is pretty rare so I would lean towards CP. I'm so sorry if that is the case (which is a big reason not to test early). However, you are only 11dpo so maybe try another test tomorrow. GL!
  • Thanks. I think I'm going to try to step away from the test aisle until I'm 14 DPO.
  • Some digitals are less sensitive but others are very sensitive.  Oversoaking will not give you a false positive.

Did you use the First Response Gold?    The line test you are using may be less sensitive....

I would buy another digital and test in the am.  If it is positive, I vote you are pregnant!

  • I think some digitals are more sensitive and some are less sensitive.  Maybe the regular line tests you used are not as sensitive as the digital.  www.peeonastick.com has a list of the sensitivity for different tests.   I would try again in the morning.  Please report back to us on what happens!  Good luck.

  • I would test again with a digital in a couple of days.  I have heard with a chemical pregnancy if you test too early, you can get positive and then if a negative comes up the next day--and then AF starts, that is a chemical pregnancy.  I am not too crazy about the line pregnancy tests.
