Okay, now I'm irritated!!!! WWYD???

I will try and make this short.  My IL's live in another state, about 2.5 hours away.  So do all of DH's brothers and sisters.  We are going up there this weekend for his nephews baptism and first b-day party.  I thought the party would be on Saturday and the baptism on Sunday morning.  DH just told me now that the b-day party is Saturday morning and baptism is Saturday at 6:15PM and the baptism party to follow at IL's house(same DC) where we are staying.  I was expecting the girls to stay up a bit late (they go to bed at 7pm) but this isn't going to be good.  (they live in a little ranch house) I know people won't be leaving till after 10. The girls both have nasty colds and they go back to school on Monday. I told DH that maybe the girls and I will have to go and stay in a hotel so we can get some sleep.  I am just irritated.

  • I think a hotel would be a great idea...I hope you have a good wknd!
  • I'd probably let the girls skip school the next day and extend your weekend.

  • We can't extend our weekend, I also have a DS that will not be with us, we have to be back by 7pm to get DS from my ex (aka spermdonor, long story)  They have been on spring break and this will only be Allison's 2nd week of preschool.  Kaitlyn already missed a week for Disney.

  • I think it will be fine. They have all day Sunday to recoup, no? Otherwise, go ahead and get a hotel if you think it will affect them that badly.

  • I would get a hotel
  • Children throughout history have gone to sleep in a house where people are still gathering. ?You must have hidden issues with your IL's because it sounds like a completely reasonable schedule to me. Take a radio into the room and put on some music to drown out the party sounds. ?Your kids will do fine. And you can stay and enjoy the party.

I agree.   Go ahead and put the girls to bed like normal.  If they are sick they wont want to stay up to visit with a bunch of people.  So allow them to enjoy part of the party and then head them off to bed.  Once asleep you can enjoy the rest of the party.

I hope they feel better and you all have a nice trip.

  • I'd just stay at my in-laws.  Whenever my SIL is in town there are tons of people at my IL's and we just put the kids to bed (or put a movie on for the older kids).  We put DS in a PNP in my IL's bedroom and he sleeps through it and that bedroom is right by the living room where we are all laughing and talking.  I think the kids will be fine.  Even if they don't sleep through it they'll probably just sleep on the way home.  I wouldn't be irritated about it though.
