Success after IF

Stupid TV IF storylines

I love the show Friends, but Chandler and Monica's IF diagnosis always bugs me. The doctor says their best shots are (1) surrogacy OR (2) donor sperm...I would get if they said "and"...but if using someone else's sperm would permit an embryo to implant in her uterus, then why would they need a surrogate? And if their embryo would be fine in someone else's uterus, why do they need donor sperm? Am I missing something? Stupid TV.

I bet it drove Courteney Cox crazy since she actually did deal with IF and did IVF (and I think was probably in the middle of it when these episodes were filmed since I think it was the following season when she was actually pregnant in real life).

Re: Stupid TV IF storylines

  • That always bugged me too. Same with Private Practice, and Baby Mama (the movie), they never get anything right, and always show all the worst cases.

  • What always bothered me about the whole Friends IF issue was that they went for ONE day of testing and they were told they had no chance.  It always bothered me about the ones with Phoebe having her brother's babies because she talks to the embryos - as if they would just leave you in the room with them - and then later THAT DAY she finds out she's pregnant!  No wonder the real world has no concept of what it really takes to go through IF.

  • you would think she would have corrected them.  geez.

yeah, kittylove is right, private practice is the worse at getting it 'right'.  That girl who shook her pregnancy test - uhhh - it needs to be flat not shaken around while talking.

brothers and sisters is slightly better, but still gets it wrong half the time.

Question:  can you get post partum from adopting?  I thought it was related to pregnancy hormones.  Please don't flame.  B&S is making it seem like Kitty has ppd.

  • re: JGirl and PPD after adopting...no idea but it seemed like Cuddy on House had PPD after she adopted too...

I'm sure there is some kind of depression/let-down after adopting similar to PPD.  Taking care of a newborn (and a douche husband in Kitty's case IMO) could definitely lead to those feelings even without the hormones.

  • I am soooooo with you! I complain everytime I see that episode. I also can't stand Phoebe got a postive the day of her ET for her brothers triplets.

    Private practice really irks me!

  • I've been lucky to avoid the other pitfalls because I don't watch Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice/Brothers and Sisters. Phew!

  • I used to really like private practice but lately I've been so turned off. ?I really thought since the one character was an RE that they would have some good and realistic storylines. ?I'm with you guys. ?It is no wonder the rest of the world doesn't understand IF.

I do think B&S has done a good job so far though.?

  • Yes, you can get PPD after adopting.  I'm on a PPD support website and there's an entire section for those who adopted.
  • Yeah.... Sex and the City (the movie) killed me too!

Charolette and Trey (looked like IUI w injectables)

Then again with Harry (multiple IVFs)

but "sometimes when you stop thinking about it... you get pregnant!"

    Gag me.
