do people have to have a google account to see pics on picasa?  I think the answer is yes.  I'm not sure how I will handle this with my computer illiterate family.

I don't think so. If the album is public you can just copy and paste the link to the album and send people that to click on. Otherwise, i think there's an option for each album to "share" and you can email people the album, and it only permits those you've shared with to see. I don't use it a lot for sharing photos so I'm not positive but I think that's how it works for non-public albums.

Thanks - I think i figured it out.

If your album is public, then you don't need a google account.

If your album is private, the email it sends out says you need a google account.  Weird because you would think just sending to their email address would work.
