IUI and Exercise-- I think this has been asked...

Hi Ladies

What has your RE advised as far as exercise goes pre and post IUI?  I started repronex last night and will likely have my IUI late next week. I asked the nurse yesterday about exercise and she said nothing strenuous.  I have been spinning and trying to run lately-- I guess this would be considered strenuous---right?  My heart rate usually gets to 160-175 or so.  Do you think the exercise could have an adverse effect pre-iui?  I am definately going to take it down a couple notcheds post iui-- maybe just walking.

what has your RE advised?

Re: IUI and Exercise-- I think this has been asked...

  • I have avoided high impact exercising post iui.  So no running, but spinning would be fine.  Pre-iui I work out if I feel like.  Sometimes the enlarged follies make running difficult.

  • my re described it to me this way - exercise Pre can be done up until you start to feel uncomfortable - the stims that we take add follies to our falopian tubes, which are not designed to carry around many - just one or two - so the weight of the extra on those fragile areas combined with exercise can twist and torque them potetially.  I think its the bouncing around more than the HR - like I continued with spin, but no running.  When I start injectables though they told me no more of both when I start to feel that area uncomfrotable.
  • Mine said I could do whatever I wanted to. However, I am doing natural IUIs.

  • I am sure its the same for ivf I was told only walking and nothing where your knee goes up too high
  • I am a pretty intense runner and was told to stop after CD 6 to avoid ovarian  torsion.  After IUI they said no high impact exercise.
