Lap scheduled, experiences are welcome!

Hi ladies, my Lap is scheduled now for April 16. Anyone care to share their experiences/advice for it? I'm kind of scared, but know it is for the best.

Re: Lap scheduled, experiences are welcome!

  • I was scared too. Had mine in February and truthfully, it was a breeze!! ?I was awake quickly after surgery, had a very dry throat for 24 hours and took pain pills for that first 24 hours. ?I was sore for about 5 days, but after the first two days, it was mostly just like a pulled muscle. ?I should say I only had the incision at my belly button though. ?

?It was sooo nice to know they'd been in and looked around. ?I had my surgery on a Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. ??

  • I've had 2 laps. The first one I felt great and was in my garden the very next day. The 2nd one took a little longer to recover maybe 3-4 days to feel back to normal.

You may end up with a sore throat from having the tube in to help you breathe so some people recommend throat spray like cepacol. Also sometimes you may get gas pain in shoulder area so gas-x is also good to have on hand.

It's not very bad at all once you are there it goes so fast and you are awake before you know what happened. Just take it easy for a few days after. Till you feel like yourself again. Get lots of rest. If I think of anything else I'll let you know. Good luck!

  • My lap was quite extensive - 3 1/2 hours, 4 incisions (including belly button). I had it on a Thurs and went back to work on Tues, although I probably could have used another day to rest. The first couple of days I really was not mobile at all, and had to have someone help me get up and down, even from the toilet!?

BUT even with the recovery, the lap was the best thing I could have done. They found stage IV endo and removed it, and got a really good look at what we are dealing with. They thought my tube was blocked based on my HSG, but it turns out it was actually just twisted around a big endometrioma!

It was scary going into it, but was totally worth it. GL!

  • My advice is to get up and walk around some. I had mine in the am. Got home, took a little snooze and then did some walking (it was nothing major- just kind of around the bed). The say it helps move the gas out of your abdomen. It worked for me as I had no gas pains. Had the surgery on a Sat and returned to work on Monday. GL! I wish you a speedy recovery Big Smile

  • I also had a good experience.  No real gas pain, a little tiny bit in my shoulder, a heating pad helped.  Make sure you have plenty of comfy clothes that won't rub your incisions.  I had mine on a Friday and I was able to go to dinner on Sunday, back at work on Monday.  The sore throat from being intubated was the worst part I thought, popsicles were my friend.

I was also super bloated for about a week after.  I had extensive endo so he was tooling around in there for awhile.  Ask for extra anti-nausea med's, if you have a history of anethesia making you sick.  I do, and it sucks to vomit after you have had surgery. You will be surprised how quickly you recover.  Good luck!

Years of trying and treatment, IVF#1 brought us our darling C!
  • I am kinda late to this but I wanted to respond.  I want to tell you the worse part for me the the tube down my throat - I had a very sore throat for days.  I did it with no pain medication - it was not that painful - I would say the first two days were the worse trying to get in and out of bed- I did need a full two weeks until I felt 100% back to normal.  Also the first two day - I felt alot of pressure down there - like I always had to pee.  Hope this helps - good luck with your lap.
