Let me preface this by saying that, when someone posts these numbers, I always say how great they are, but, I have to say, and you can all slap my wrists and tell me they are fine, I guess I just had hoped for something a little higher than this.
23 eggs were retrieved yesterday. Great! 17 were mature and ICSI'd. Out of the 17, we have 9 embryos.
It's more than double the number I've ever had, so, I guess I should be really happy and hopeful, right?
Re: Got my DE fert report
9 embryos is FANTASTIC. And with a young donor the odds of those making it to day 5 is awesome
I know what you mean though - we always had lower than expected fert rates (Dh has some morph issues) and it always freaked me out. But put nine candles on your mantle or nine jelly beans in your hand - 9 is a LOT of embies!
WOOHOO!!!!
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
9 embryos is great!!!!!
Thanks, girls! I know I'm being silly. I guess, when she said they ICSI'd 17 I expected a better number than 9 because, even thought I have lousy eggs, most of the time, whatever mature eggs we got fertilized, so, I would ICSI 4 eggs and get 4 embryos. I was suprised to hear a number so much smaller.
Plus, in my donor's last cycle, she had 19 eggs ICSI'd and ended up with 10 embryos and my doctor explained that off as a sperm issue, not an egg issue, but, here we are with the same kind of numbers.
OK, I'm done being silly and I'm going to focus my energy on my 9 growing (hopefully) embryos!
And, Elizabeth - I just poured 9 pills into my hand and, you're right, it is alot!!
9 is great! Remember these are 9 embies from young(?) healthy eggs. I bet all 9 are superstars!
Nine is awesome! As a matter of fact, nine is the number of embryos I had in my four IVFs. Combined.
I do totally see where you're coming from. I was always so jealous of the great responders on the board because my numbers always sucked, and I'm sure you felt the same. If we had opted to do DE, I think I would have hoped to see some of those jaw-dropping numbers in my DE cycle. But really, I would have been jealous of someone with 9 embryos as well -- it's still way better than I ever did. And as epphd pointed out, they are probably fantastic quality b/c of the youth of your donor. I think you have an amazing chance with your 9, awesome, fresh-from-your-spring-chicken-donor embryos!
You know what, 9 is the total number I've had from my previous 4 ER/ET's, too! Great perspective!!
9 is a great number to work with. I agree with pp's that since you have good quality eggs, the amount you should have at day 5 should still be a lot. Congrats! and keep the reports coming!!
9 is great!!! This IS going to work!!! Good luck!!!
9 is 8 more than it takes to have a baby.
Really it's a good number and you should be happy. Best of luck to you.
