I will NEVER do that again.

OMG.  I took the boys to get their pics done at Picture People this morning.  Now I know why it's been two years since I've been to a studio.

I have plenty of pics of each boy alone because I'm constantly taking photos of them...I just have a hard time getting good ones of them together and thought a studio setting with someone other than their mother taking the shots might work better.  Not so much.  There were no good ones of them together.  She missed several good opportunities for shots while trying to set up a "perfect" one.  Um, hello?  Two-year-olds and infants don't really do well with being posed exactly how you want them.  Flexibility is key, mmmkay?

I wanted to rip the fricking camera out of her hands and take the pictures myself.  Poor Law was so frustrated because she kept telling him to do things that he didn't understand ("lie on your side and prop your head up with one hand") and the way she was trying to set up the shots with the two of them was ridiculous.

I ended up buying two sheets of the lesser of two evils shot of them together and then a sheet of each of them alone and it was 62 fricking dollars -- even with a free sheet and 20% off.  Insane.

Holy crap that was a stressful experience.

  • I just got back from a crappy photo shoot too!  Gavin was great but the photographer must have been new and took really bad photos. blurry and stuff.  I am calling a different place and having them taken over.
  • But I bet the boys were cute! Smile

That sucks!  I've never been to one of those places, and I hope that I never am.

  • I've been wondering where you were! Sorry it sucked so bad!!!! I HATE picture people...when we used to go there more often, there was ONE girl, named Dana (that's how we remembered her all the time) that we would purposefully request...if we ever got other people, we ended up not buying the pictures.

Portrait Innovations is a touch better....

but yeah, I hate how they "wait" for the perfect shot...no you have to freaking keep the camera going with 2+!!!!!!

  • Bummer. I have used a studio in three years since I had DD's 1 yr pics taken. I've taken the kids pictures myself. Though I think I want to take them in to get all three of them together, because I know that'll be chaos if I try to do it myself!
  • Aww that stinks - sorry you had such a shittastic experience!  Just curious though, which outfits did you pick??

I went with the striped ones.  I wanted to do an outfit change and also take some in the solid shirt/one-piece, but the whole experience had me so frustrated, I decided to hell with it.

  • I agree, you are not really going to get that "perfect" shot with 2 little ones.  We normally go to Sears and I always get some good shots of my 2 kids together (and some not so great ones as well).  At home I try to sit them somewhere that DS can't get away and then use shaky eggs or other things that make silly sounds to get them to focus on me instead of getting away and I usually get some good pics. that way.........and really some of my pictures come out better then some of the "professional" ones IMO.
  • That sounds horrible! We lucked out at Sears and found an awesome photographer that we used for quite awhile. She had amazing reflexes and caught some GREAT shots because of that.

Sounds like she knows nothing about kids.

  • I hate picture people now, We had a professional photographer come to our house, she was?so amazing?and worth every penny, so I think that's what we'll be doing from now on.
  • I hate Picture People. We had a horrible experience just like yours with my son and nephews... the photographer was horrible and took forever.  I will never go there again!
  • I've never been to Picture People, but we go to Portrait Innovations whenever we want pictures. ?We've always had good luck getting at least a few good shots of them together, and the prices are much better than PP. ?They almost always have a deal going where for $9.99 you can get about a million copies of one shot. ?Of course, I've never walked out of there without purchasing more than that, but if there were no other good shots, I wouldn't hesitate to do that.

  • Sears is the place to go!!  I've taken the kids to Sears for 2 years now and have NEVER had a problem... Before I went to Sears I had gone to two different JC Penney's and it was horrible!!!  But Sears is great and you can make appt.s online!  Very convienent and I normally get the first appt. of the day that I want!  hehe... hope this helps!
