Just throwing out a few questions, if you guys don't mind answering!! If you do mind, no prob.. just ignore me ![]()
I've been TTC for 10 months(completely anovulatory..HSG is clear.. they're sure I have PCOS and I've been on Met for over 3 months), they found I am not responding to Clomid (not even a smidge). My doctor is talking injectables for next cycle with an IUI. I'm pretty sure my Rx insurance doesn't cover these meds as I do not know exactly which ones I will be perscribed yet.. but they said in general, fert meds are not covered.
I've heard a lot about the ovarian drilling though, and it almost sounds to good to be true! AND my insurance WILL COVER IT! (70% at least) so it will actually be about the same $$, and possibly a more permanent fix.
Has anyone on here had it done? I have an appt. with my RE Monday to discuss the next cycle and I'm going to bring this up.
Also, if you've had it done (or know someone who has):
1) How was your recovery? How much time did you take off from work?
2) Did it help you get PG?
3) If you don't mind me asking, how much was the bill... before insurance?
TIA Ladies... I will admit I sometimes lurk over here... dreaming of the day I will be one of you! I really appreciate any help you can give me. Good luck to all of you in your pregnancies and beyond!!
Re: Can you help a T-TTCer?? RE: Ovarian Drilling
Hi, I have PCOS as well, and asked both my gyns ( I moved while pg so I had 2) and my RE and they all said they wouldn't do it and would never rec. having it done. They all said it was dangerous to the ovaries, and pretty much never worked. I was hoping for a permanent fix, and was very disappointed.
Anyway, before injectibles I would ask RE about femara. I didn't have success with clomid, but the lowest dose of femara worked for me the first time. A good friend of mine also used femara and had success the first time as well. I can't say enough good things about it...less side effects, better eggs and still pretty cheap with insurance. i know that some REs won't use it b/c of birth defects while pregnant, but you're not taking it while pregnant and it isn't in your body as long as clomid is. Now that we are thinking about #2 and aren't near my old RE I am only going to go to an RE who uses femara.
Good luck and I hope to see you here soon!!!!
I don't think there are a lot of people who do ovarian drilling now, but you can google ovarian diathermy and read about that (they cauterize the inside of the ovaries). ?However, I think both have fallen out of favor. ?There is more information (and maybe more people who have done it) on soulcysters.net. ?

Good luck!?
I'm not much help- but i was scheduled to have it done and then found out I was pregnant, so I didn't have to have it. But I was told recovery wasn't too long and my OB has had success with it. I also didn't respond too well to clomid- my p4 level when we were successful was 7.
Good Luck!
