Crib Dilema

I was afraid to buy our crib too early and now the color I wanted (Espresso) is out of stock! This crib is no longer being made and I really have my heart set on it. I wanted to do a combination of White & Espresso furniture pieces, and now the main furniture would all be white. Though I plan buy an Espresso changing table topper for the Hemnes 3 drawer dresser. I'm really torn between still getting the crib and searching for a new one. It doesn't help that I haven't found any other cribs that I like. Suggestions?

Re: Crib Dilema

  • Personally, I prefer the main furniture pieces to be all the same color.... but - this crib is somewhat similar to the one you like.

  • Thanks! I did see that one yesterday but haven't looked too much into the quality of JCP furniture (I saw there were some posts earlier on the board). That and I wonder if later I'd regret not having storage under the crib. I saw a few nurseries on Project Nursery that I really liked that mixed white & espresso pieces. I honestly have never even liked white furniture, we have all darker woods in our home. I just wanted something different for our baby's room.

    Cool website, thanks. Yes

  • Can you find out if another retailer has it in stock? A lot of big stores have Graco cribs.

I personally love mixed furniture. It gives the room an authentic feel, which I think sometimes baby nurseries are lacking in. If everything matches, where is the visual interest? Just my thoughts - I'm no interior designer!

One warning about cribs with dark finishes though - scratches can show up very easily! ?

  • You soundexactly like my crib dilemma.  I was buying the black/brown espresso Hemnes dresser and then was getting a two tone crib to go with it.  Crib got dropped and I have had the hardest time fining something I like as much.  You chose a very similar crib to what I'm doing although I'm doing the dark Hemnes.  I think it will look good.

I actually may have to look into your.  Is yours a bright white or off white?  Mine was a little more off white than I would have liked and am looking for a whiter one.

No luck there...I called Graco directly to check if anyone had it in stock and they referred me to Lajobi who produced it under the Graco name. Since it has been discontinued they were of no help.

I agree it depends on the design. Personally I didn't want to use all dark wood as I felt it would be too heavy for the space. Plus we have a lot of dark furnishings in our home and I wanted the nursery to have a bit of a different feel. At the same time, I felt all white furniture was too much white.

Thanks for the warning, aside from scratches I think about the dust factor! I appreciate the suggestions and feedback, I'm starting to obsess over this too much ;)

How funny, I did see that one yesterday and then was looking all over the internet to see if it came in Espresso! It is very similar to the Jason crib, I love the molding detail.

I believe the Jason crib is true white. I haven't received it yet. My order is on hold until I can make up my mind. Part of me is hoping someone will cancel their order or return the Espresso crib. Totally unrealistic, I know.

    Thanks for your feedback!
