To go up againest the public school system today.
Jack was evaluated to receive services for preschool in December and their opinion was that he didn't need them. I disagreed and thought their evaluation wasn't complete. So they threw me a bone and put him in the classroom on a temporary IEP to further evaluate. We have our followup meeting today and I can tell from teh report that they are going to deny him services again.
I appreciate their opinion, but I also have a private OT and a neuropsycologist that tested him extensively and both say he needs services.
This is not going to be fun. I am so sick of fighting them. Wish me luck.
Oh...he needs services for Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, gross motor and peer relations. Problem is he is high functioning, so it is easily hidden when he behaves so well in public. he is a people pleaser.
Re: God Give Me the Strength
Good luck!
I'll be thinking about you!
You had a private evaluation, and they aren't recognizing it? In my district, they always follow the suggestions of the private eval.
If he qualifies (and you have an eval that proves he does) then they can not deny him services. (At least in NJ) You have the right to go to a neighboring school district that does offer the necessary services, and your school district will have to pay them tuition. They do NOT like to do this, obviously. Tell them you are looking into neighboring districts and the services they offer, and I bet that will light a fire under them.
Good luck! Way to advocate for your kid . It's crazy the number of parents that don't.
stand your ground and fight tooth and nail! You are definitely prepared with all reports and such!
Good Luck and keep us posted!
It sounds like you are doing a great job advocating for your child! Good luck!
