I have the vajayjay of a 60 year old

This is not a joke. Has anyone else had "lactational atrophic vaginitis"?

Long story short, I went to have my strings checked after Mirena was inserted 6 weeks ago and they "didn't like what they saw" down there. They tested my for STDs (which of course can back negative.)

I digress, so I went in to the obgyn again today and the doctor (Dr. Lyman by the way - she rocks if you are looking for an obgyn in Decatur) told me that I had the vagina of a 60 year old woman - WTF! Basically, since I'm breastfeeding and not making any estrogen - my vagina has dried up. Isn't motherhood wonderful? I had no idea this could happen. I am glad that they were able to diagnose what was wrong with me.

Just wondered if any other mommas had gone through this and I had to share this with someone else. Thanks for letting me vent.

  • Just curious to know if this happens to all women who breastfeed?

Well, I hope they are able to do something to correct it or fix it.  Sorry to hear about that.  Hope things get better for you.

  • Yep! Sex really hurts and when I had my pap smear at my annual earlier this month, I literally screamed it hurt so bad. They gave me a cream that I insert once a week to help moisturize. Good times.

  • Awww.... I'm sorry.  I can't even begin to imagine.  I just know that dry sex is bad sex, so I can't imagine being like that all the time.  :(  *hugs*  Hopefully it will get better, and hopefully it will happen soon for you.
  • - raises hand -  although, my doc never called it that.

I BF both kids for a year each.  And it happened both times.  I asked my OB about it and he prescribed a cream for it.  I never used it b/c i read that some of the medicine is leached into breast milk.  So then the OB recommended a glass of wine and lots of lubrication.  It has gotten a bit better since i quit BF, but i'm not 100%.
