Co-worker put wife's u/s picture on screen saver

So, my co-worker just announced today that his wife is pregnant.  Come to find out she's only 7 1/2 weeks, which mortifies me.  After having 3 losses, I can't imagine telling ANYONE until I'm well out of the first tri.

I just turned around at my desk, and saw that he put his wife's u/s picture up on his screen as his backdrop when his p/c is locked.  My stomach just dropped.  Not to mention, he has 2 monitors, so it's a double slap in the face.  Every time I get up and turn around.

Work was the one place where I could forget about IF during the day.  Not anymore :(

  • OMG. I'm totally with you. Why would you do that (him - not you)? Man, I'm so sorry you have to deal with that.

  • Ouch. Maybe you could put an "anonymous" post-it on his desk that says, "Not everyone enjoys looking at the inside of your wife's uterus." I don't know why anyone would announce it so early like that.
  • That's just obnoxious - and I would feel that way even if I wasn't going through IVF.  I can never see anything on those u/s pics anyway, so why post them!?  Not only that, 7 1/2 weeks is WAY too early to be making the big announcement.

We have friends that announced at only 4 weeks and everyone gasped because it was so early (it also didn't help that they announced it to about 100 people over a PA system!)

  • I can understand their excitement but it really is so early. Every time he leaves his desk you should go shut off his monitor when no one is looking..lol.

  • WOW, that's super ealy. Annoying too. After my m/c I am thinking of waiting till 15 or so weeks. Hardly anyone knew last time, but it was still hard enough. I am not sure there is much you can do, maybe if your office is big he wouldn't know you did it, you could shut his monitor off, or leave a note, but my office is just 6 people so it would get weird if they knew it was me.
  • Is nothing private anymore? Why would he assume everyone wants to see his wife's u/s picture on his screen saver? Is he the kind of person you would feel comfortable talking to? I would suggest that his screen saver is inappropriate and ask him to change it.
