Wording on Cake

What message do you typically see on baby shower cakes?

 Best Wishes seems formal.

The baby's not here yet, so I'm not sure about Congratulations.

And Good Luck sounds like I'm reminding them they're in for a heck of a ride!

Do you put both mommy and daddy's names?

Thanks for any advice!

Re: Wording on Cake

  • I have seen it where they write 'It's a boy/girl' or if they don't know what it is, I have seen where they don't write anything but make it look like latice (sp?) and put miniature ducks or baby rattles inside each square and the they can cut the cake within each 'square', if that makes any sense.

  • I would avoid wording and just have a design. Words always make a cake look cheap, IMO. No matter where you get it from (or make it yourself) piped on words just make the cake look like something that's been sitting in the grocery store fridge case for weeks. Every bakery can make up a cute design, and it's not like people at the shower will be confused as to the reason for the cake :)

To follow on this - there were no words on my shower cake.  My mom was in charge and she was like "do we NEED words?  EVeryone knows why they are there and I think most sayings are kind of cheesy".  I had to agree w/ her!

I say focus on a cute design and dont' worry about wording.

  • My hosts put Happy Labor Day on mine- we all thought it was funny!
  • Leave it up to the hostess
  • Um, I am the hostess.  :)  And the cake provider!  Thanks for all the advice!
  • Let us know what you decide!!  Seems wording on cakes gets harder and harder!
