Success after IF

Would I still do childbirthing classes if having a c-section?

We plan on taking a mulitples class at our hospital and an new infant care class (DH has no clue how to even change a diaper or feed a baby).  Both are just one day in July.  However, we planned on doing the 5 week birthing class, but is this needed if we are doing a c-section?  I know the hospital pretty well, my husband will be working there in a few months, my cousin works labor and delivery for 25 years and my SILs delivered there.

  • I would not.  You'll never get back that time you spent uselessly learning about episiotomies, pushing, and transition.  And, 5 weekends when you're pregnant with twins?  Would be EXHAUSTING.  My advice: take a breastfeeding class instead.

  • I can't answer, but in our childbirth classes there was a couple expecting twins who already knew they'd be having a c-section and they came to all four classes. One of the weeks covered c-sections anyway since you never know what might happen in labor and the last week covered postnatal care/newborn care. So not all of it was centered on vaginal births.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • I can't breastfeed due to a medical procedure I had in my breast.:(

Then spend your free weekends shopping, laying on the couch, or going to the movies :)

(And never let anyone make you feel bad about not being able to BF, by the way. It didn't work for me, and I had no medical reason... was just too hard.)

  • I did not take a class and I HAD a vag birth - no need for one... esp if having a c/s. don't waste your time or money.
  • I tried to give birth naturally and then had a c-section, and while the class was very useful for the first part of labor, I didn't need it at all of the c-section.

Thank you for saying that.  You know, I never cared that I couldn't breastfeed until I was pregnant, then I began having the urge. Maybe it's a maternal instinct.  But I assumed if I could've done it, I wouldn't have been hard on myself.  Myself and brothers weren't breastfed and my nieces and nephews were for just a few weeks.  So I'm not one of those dedicated to BF types anyway because my immediate family didn't set the example lol.

  • I wouln't. If you want a tour of the hospital some offer that separately from the class although it sounds like you may not need that either.
  • i wouldn't waste the money

  • I had a planned c section and never took the classes. With your other classes and being familiar with the hospital, I would think you have most of it covered. I agree take the time to do relax!

  • my hospital has a special class for c sections.
