I had posted a few weeks ago regarding my husband's low testosterone (48). He recently went to the doctor's because we are now TTC and also because his energy levels etc are soo low. They took him off of Testim and now have him going to the doc's every two weeks for testosterone shots. From what he says, the doctor didn't want to do a SA yet and said to try for three months then go back to test his levels again. I was just wondering if any of you have heard of a success rate from the shots? I am sure every case is different but was just curious.
We are completely new to this and we are trying to stay positive but since his levels are so low it is hard to imagine that we won't have a difficult time TTC.
Re: Testosterone Shots
Is he seeing a urologist? Our uro said that testosterone shots are essentially male birth control - since they impact how the body makes hormones - and as such it has a serious negative impact on sperm production. We had to wait 6+ months after his last shot to schedule our PESA.
I would seek a second opinion if I were you. For TTC couples where the male has low testosterone, the only suggestion I've heard is clomid for the male.
Thank you both for the information. My Mom was also saying that she didn't feel the testosterone shots were the right thing since we were TTC. He is scheduled for his next shot on Wed of next week, so I am going to try to go with him. He is seeing a urologist but I am not sure if he specializes in MFI. I will definitely find that out.
I would be tempted to set up a consult with someone else before he gets his next shot!
