My mother's parents were Gramma and Gramps, my father's parents are Grammy and Grampy and my step-mother's parents were Gram and Papa. I liked having a different name for each person, even if they were similar.
My Grandmother was Ma my Grandfather was Poppi. My mothers 3 Grandkids currently call her LaLa (she didn't want to be grandma or nana and my oldest nephew came up with that)
Great question...my mom is looking for something different, too. She likes Mimi, but my DH hates it so we're trying to give her other options. So far, I like Nona, or Nonnie.
I had a Granny and a Mema. Mema sounds weird when I say it now, but it was always normal to us growing up in the south! However, my FIL wants to be called PawPaw, which makes me want to choke on my spit. At least it's not PeePaw...
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
I think most of my family had some funny nickname... I have my nanny, knunnel, papal, mema, poppops, eddu. Don't ask those aren't even all grandparents some are uncles lol!
I had two sets of grandma & grandpas, but I started calling one of the grandpas "GP" as I got older. It has stuck and now even my son calls him that. My best friends kids call their grandma "tutu" which is hawiian for grandmother. I hope my baby gets to call my inlaws something cute! My mom made my son call her "aunt ___" because she didn't want to be a grandma so badly and he calls his other grandparents Grandma Barb & Grandpa Barb. (Barb is his grandma's first name!)
On my mom's side I have Granmere (pronounced Gran-mare) and Granpere (grand-pear) My Grandpa is French and that is what he called his gp's. On my Dad's side I had Grandma Shirley. My mom and dad want to be Nana and Grandpa and DH's parents want to be Mawmaw and Pawpaw. DC will probably just call my living grandparents Granmere and Granpere to make it easier.

Re: What did you call your grandparents?
nah, we were boring.
my dad's parents are grandmom and poppop
my mom's parents nana and grandpop
Mine were Avi, Aba, and Topito... but I'm hispanic, so there you go.
?
i had a Gam, Papap and a Grandma
dh has a grammy, pappy, grandma and grandpa
our son will have a pappy, grandma, avia (latin for grandma) and we don't have a clue what my dad will be!
Both sets were Grammy and Pop Pop to me.
DH's family has an interesting grandmother name: "Meemaw." Not sure where it comes from, but it's cute.
And our best friends always called their in-laws by first-name-nick-names (Barb-zilla, Rose-zilla), so now the grandmas are "Zilla" to the babies.
