  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board?  Well, I started posting on this board in mid-2007 but then had thyroid issues discovered in January 2008, and surgery to remove fibroids in April 2008 - so essentially I took about 10 months off from posting, and TTTC, but now I'm back.

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go?  Went for my annual GYN exam - the year after we started TTC, I started talking to the NP about our difficulty, and she said it's probably time to go see an RE and there's a young woman at the front desk who just started going to see this amazing practice, you should talk to her. So I did, and so it goes.

    3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area? I'm just outside of Philadelphia on the Main Line, I haven't met anyone from this board that I know of, but it's quite possible at least one person been in the doctor's office when I have.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves? For the first year we battled IF, before I had surgery in April 2008, I told everyone. I'm a little quieter now, I don't talk about it often except to my closest friends.

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given? "drink the water, you're sure to get pregnant"

    6) What type of music do you listen to? Anything and everything, but my best friend tells me I'm stuck in the 80s and early 90s - which I sort of am - alternative music such as The Fixx, The Clash, The Cure, Depeche Mode, INXS, etc. But I also like jazz, blues, doo wop, rap, hip hop, anything that has a good beat basically.

    7) What are your favorite tv shows?  Lost, The West Wing (on DVD of course), Brothers & Sisters (but that one is starting to piss me off now too).

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together? Travel, play with the dog, spend time with friends and family, cook.

SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!

no one has given be anything nutty yet! lol

...and a few off topics for good measure...

  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board?

I began posting on here sometime in 2007 after DH and I hit the one year mark of TTC.  I took a bit of a break because I felt overwhelmed with information, and I ventured back toward the end of 2008.

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go?

I actually haven't seen an RE because I was told we really didn't need one, and I thought the consultation cost was outrageous.  The more information I get, the more I realize that it's time to go.  I'll probably have my first visit in late May or early June.

    3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area?

I'm from Michigan, but I will be moving to Washington soon.  I have met up from one girl on here, and I would love to meet up with others.  It's nice to know people in real life that share your same struggle.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves?

I am pretty open when it comes to my struggles.  It helps me to talk about it.

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given?

I don't think I've been given any CRAZY advice necessarily, but I do all those funny things like propping my legs straight up in the air after sex so that the sperm can't escape-LOL!

...and a few off topics for good measure...

    6) What type of music do you listen to?

I love pop music, and I am a HUGE Backstreet Boys fan (if you couldn't tell by my siggy challenge).  I also enjoy many Christian artists.

    7) What are your favorite tv shows?

My absolute favorite is Lost, but I also enjoy American Idol, The Hills, and The Office.

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together?

DH has taught me a real appreciation for the outdoors.  We like to go hiking and camping and canoeing together.  We have a black lab that we take on all of our adventures, and it's a blast.  We are our own little family and can't wait to take our baby on hiking and camping trips.  We also like listening to live music and watching movies together.

    2.    i'm still with my ob/gyn, but his clinic is set up to provide a basic level of infertility support (up through doing IUIs), and so far i have no misgivings about the tests, monitoring, and protocols he's suggested for us.

    3.  Chicago... and not yet.

    4.   certain friends  and certain family member know.    but definitely not everyone and we don't really discuss it with our parents.   they know we're trying and having trouble, but that's it.

    5.   "you know, i bet once you stop trying so hard, it'll happen... that's how it always works!"

    6.    i don't have a specific genre... i like the good stuff, no matter what kind of music it is.

    7.   LOST, ER, Biggest Loser, Big Love, The Office

    8.   we're both pretty busy, so our favorite things to do together are cuddle on the couch and go out to eat.

Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • Hi Jen!  Great to see your response!  What kind of dog do you have?  I forgot that DH and I like to travel too.  Where is your favorite place to go?  Do you have any trips planned right now?  I am a Lost fan too.  My friends recommended The West Wing to me, but I have not started watching it yet.  The dvds are in my Netflix queue.  Are you a Duran Duran fan at all?  I have a friend that just loves them and is a fan of many of those same bands.  I love your crazy TTC advice.  Did you hear that at work or somewhere else?

  • Hi Lawren!  I like the spelling of your name!!!  You make me feel better that you post off and on.  Sometimes I feel guilty if I'm gone for a week or two.  I am very invested in seeing everyone here get their BFP because it gives me hope, and I believe we are all more than deserving.  I feel like I haven't gotten to know everybody well enough because I don't always post every day.  I'm glad that you have been receiving a lot of support through sharing your struggles.  I have a cousin who had to go the IVF route, and I often wish that her and I were closer so we could swap stories.  I was relieved that my own religious MIL didn't spew those kinds of crap lines on me.  She's been surprisingly supportive and simply prays for us.  She really wants a grandchild, and I have been appreciative of her attitude.

Hi - thanks - Everyone spells it wrong lol My grandfather/dad are Lawrence so I got it from there. Yeah - I sometimes feel like I don't really know people very well here because I'm not here everyday, but I get a lot of info and support, and I try to return it when I'm here. Yeah, it was funny - my MIL was quiet at first, but the more we talk about it, the more I get funny little comments - so watch out! lol I hope to see you on here when I'm here!

  • Hey Ladychicago!  I love your picture of Gracie.  I should post a picture of my furbaby too.  It's nice to hear of someone utilizing their ob/gyn.  The office I have been going to here in Michigan offers many infertility services, though I don't think they do IUI's.  I was just getting settled in and ready to move forward with my b/w when my husband got laid off and we lost our medical coverage.  Then he started with a new company, and we'll be relocating soon.  I'm excited that they offer coverage for diagnostic procedures, but I was not excited at the thought of finding new doctors.  Fortunately, I spoke with 2 RE's out there, and I am feeling pretty confident that we'll be able to start back up on our journey very shortly.  I can't wait to be one of the girls that gets to wait for the results of her cycles with all of the others.  There are some great restaurants in Chicago.  Do you have a favorite?

Hi Jen!

Hi Jen, how are you doing? I figure I might as well nest today before I leave for my HSG, I can't concentrate on work.

No trips planned at the moment, but we were in Disney in January, Jacksonville in February, and Richmond, VA in March all for soccer tournaments, but Disney we stayed longer just the two of us to celebrate our 5th anniversary and to do the parks, it was a blast!  DH is a full time soccer coach - we don't have kids, but we do joke that we have twelve 10-year old boys, and sixteen 14-year old boys, and they usually treat me like the den Mother on these trips, it's cute.

I was never a fan of Duran Duran when they first came out and were really, really popular, I got into their music more when their CD "Big Thing" came out, I love that CD but now I still admit to liking all their old music too.

How about you, any trips planned?

SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!
  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board? since last summer

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go? My ob/gyn was able to diagnose me with PCOS through blood tests and an ultrasound.  I started doing some reading up on PCOS on this board and in books and found out that an RE would have more expertise on this condition than an ob/gyn.

    3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area? 6 months ago I moved from Virginia to North Carolina- no I've never met up with anyone on any of the nest boards.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves? I used to keep it secret because I didn't want a lot of questions.  After 10 months of trying I told my mom and MIL.  Around the 15 month mark I started telling others.  I write about it a lot in my blog.  I'm so glad that I've shared with others because so many more people are now telling me that they're currently going through IF or have gone through it in the past.  Who would have known?

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given? I've been pretty fortunate that I haven't gotten any nutty advice.

...and a few off topics for good measure...

    6) What type of music do you listen to? pop, some Oldies (70's), some country and Christian

    7) What are your favorite tv shows? The Office, Jon & Kate Plus 8

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together? walking with out dogs, playing poker, making dinner together

  • Hi Krissy!  I am so sorry that you have had to be on this board since its beginning.  I'm hoping that you will be able to "graduate" soon!  My husband was very leery to move forward and start seeing an RE as well.  He kind of still believes that it's a timing thing and we'll get pregnant once we move to Washington.  While I would love for that to happen, it's been almost 3 years.  Something is just not adding up.  I'm glad to see another "open book" here.  Sometimes my willingness to talk about IF has yielded some stupid responses, but overall I am glad to be able to get it out.  I don't get all those questions asking when I'm going to have a baby, which is a relief.  I was still going to school when Lost started, so I didn't get to watch it from the very beginning.  I remember seeing the trailers when it was premiering, and it looked really interesting.  I bought Season 1 from Best Buy when it came out, and DH and I have been absolutely addicted.  We watched the entire Season 2 on our honeymoon in Kauai.  I promise everyone that we did still see the island-LOL!

  • Hi Hillaree!  Are you excited to have your first RE appointment?  I can't wait to take that step because it means I will have a plan.  I thought about sending DH to the urologist as well.  My aunt and uncle tried to get pregnant for several years, and after my uncle went to the urologist they were able to locate the problem.  It was a simple fix, and they conceived a child shortly after.  When will you know more about how your husband's procedure went?  Coldplay is actually a band that both DH and I can agree on.  He's much more of a classic rock type and hates my pop music obsession.  He thinks the music that I listen to is total garbage-LOL!  So I'm feeling pretty deprived about this new season of The Office.  DH and I watched up to Season 4 on Netflix.  By the time we were finished, Season 5 was well underway.  The NBC website only keeps about a handful of episodes available for streaming, so we probably won't get to watch the current season until it comes out on dvd.  I am bummed.  My friend said it's getting really good.  What types of things do you like to cook?  Any favorite recipes you'd like to share???

  • Hi Michele!  Wow, your tentative IVF calendar says that you start BCP's tomorrow!  I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.  That is really exciting!!!  When and how did you find out that you had endo?  My aunt actually had endo, and I vividly remember going to visit her in the hospital after her surgery.  She is the one person I am actually close to that really understands my desire to be a mommy and the pain that comes along with IF.  I'll let you in some happy news.  She has a 10 year old son now!  I love to share inspirational stories, and I am going to be very excited to see your BFP!  I think I remember you posting about the "octomom" comment.  I hate that she has given IVF such a bad name as of late.  I think it's so unfair to compare any of us to her.  I think we are all highly responsible individuals on here that just want a chance to be a mom.  Sometimes I wonder if my husband is so IVF resistant because her story is so big in the news right now.  If so, I am going to be hopping mad.  Octomom is NOT going to ruin my chances of having a family!!!  I haven't seen anyone else mention American Idol yet, so I'll just ask you.  Who is your favorite so far this season?  Matt Giraud is actually from the city I used to live in, so I am definitely rooting for him.  At this point, though, I haven't picked a clear favorite.  I like a lot of the contestants.

  • Hi lovin!  I am so sad to see that you have to keep your IF a secret because you wouldn't be supported.  Please let me know if you ever need an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on.  I believe it's important for all of us to be there for each other.  Haha@the crazy TTC advice!  Did you ever watch the show Notes from the Underbelly?  I almost died laughing when the lead character did that after her and her husband had sex.  It was so hopelessly relatable for me because I grasped at those same straws.  Subconsciously I knew better, but it felt good to try and "help" the process along-LOL!  Unfortunately that's where the similarities ended because the show wasn't about IF.  What kind of sporting events do you like to go to?  I am a huge hockey fan, but I like baseball and basketball as well.  I'm a little bummed to know I won't be able to go to games as much after I move.  Right now I live in a prime area to see Red Wings, Pistons, and Tigers games.  I think most (if not all) of Washington's teams are in Seattle, which will be too far of a drive for me on a normal night.  Hopefully, I'll be able to venture out for a weekend game at some point.  I like watching it all live!

  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board? I'm mostly a lurker since last fall. I lurked on BOTB for a long time - before I knew I had a problem!2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go? When I went off the pill in August 2007 I discovered that my cycles were wacky. We've been TTC since then, but took a break from Jan-April 08. Then in April 08 I started charting, confirmed that I wasn't always ovulating, and went to an RE in Oct 08. I had a c/p (got pg naturally), then the cycle after was promptly fired from that RE for high FSH. I'm now at my second RE, who discovered stage IV endo when I had a lap in Jan. I'm certain that's the root cause of my problems.3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area? From Northern NJ (a lot of us here!) but I've never met anyone.4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves? Yes, I'm pretty much an open book. I'm also happy to educate others - it amazes me that there is so little awareness of IF.5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given? My mom is always telling me stories about people she knows who were told they couldn't get pregnant and did - the whole 'doctors don't know everything' attitude.?...and a few off topics for good measure...6) What type of music do you listen to? Everything from showtunes to top 407) What are your favorite tv shows? Grey's, Lost, Amazing Race, Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, Brothers & Sisters8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together??Travel, go hiking, watch movies, hang out with friends and family, go to the beach

  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board?

I have been posting since I have been seeing the RE, which was May of 2008.

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go?

I was referred by my ob/gyn after a good HSG and SA, and a year of no luck TTC :(  Unfortunately, I waited 3 months before I got the guts to go.  I refused to believe I needed treatment.  Now I wish I hadn't waited so long.

    3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area?

I am from Long Island, NY.  I have never met up with anyone from the Bump.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves?

Just a few close people.  Not everyone.

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given?

I was told I should hang out with babies, so my hormones rage more.  (That was from a guy of course)

...and a few off topics for good measure...

    6) What type of music do you listen to?

    Everything.  But I love DMB.

    7) What are your favorite tv shows?

American Idol, Private Practice, and How I met your Mother.

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together?

We love to travel, but don't really have the money for that these days.  But we love going to the local wineries out by me for that day, and we love going out to eat and to the movies.

  • Hi Gina!  I am sorry to hear about your m/c.  I can only imagine how difficult that must have been, and my heart goes out to you and your husband.  I'm glad that you are able to share things with others in spite of your pain.  I'm also glad you came out of lurking.  I think I would be looking for a new ob/gyn if mine ever said something like that to me.  I've tried all of the stupid unhelpful advice.  I've had drunk sex, I've had sober sex, I've had vacation sex, I've tried positions that have gotten OTHER girls pregnant.  I've listened to it all, and nothing has helped.  I'm unemployed right now, and you would think that I would be about as stress-free as they come since I don't have to put up with horrid bosses and/or rude co-workers.  The whole relax thing is one of my least favorite comments.  I am relaxed DAMMIT!  If relaxation was all it took, then I would have had my BFP 6 months ago.  But whatever.  Anyway, where do you go hiking?  DH and I hiked a little bit of the Kittatinny Ridge this past weekend.  We didn't get to go very far because we didn't have our normal boots and hiking gear, but the parts of it I saw were pretty!

  • Thanks for posting this :) Nice to meet you too!

    1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board? Since January but I have lurked since last April.

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go? Not getting AF for 10 months after going off BCP.

) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area? I am originally from MA but now live in NY. I have met up with girls from another board I used to actively post on.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves? For the most part we are private. I dont feel I can open up to my good friends...they wouldn't understand. My husband and I are the only married ones in our peer group and the thought of starting a family is very foreign to most of them. I did tell my parents though because I felt very lonely without having friends to talk to.

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given? ...and a few off topics for good measure... Oh well my mom has had some doozy comments including "Are you sure you want to do this?"- regarding treatment and "I was always healthy when I was pregnant with you so I dont know why you are this way. Maybe try yoga." and DH's Aunt(who has no idea we are even trying) told me that when I want to conceive I should drink cream straight.

    6) What type of music do you listen to? mostly top 40, gushy love songs...anything I can sing along with. :)

    7) What are your favorite tv shows? I have eclectic taste in tv...Lost, Prison Break, Fringe, 48 Hours Mystery, Food Network, The Soup

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together? Walk the city, try new restaurants, travel

  • 1. Since the beginning, so over 2 years ago.

    2. I first went to the RE when my OB refused to actually diagnose me after all of my intial testing. I always believe that you need to be proactive about your health and if you aren't satisfied with the first answer you are given, you are always entitled to a second opinion.

    3. I am now from Cincinnati and I have met with local girls here once or twice.

    4. I have shared all my struggles with my family and friends, but I haven't said anything to anyone at work yet.

    5. Nothing too crazy, just people being ignorant about what is going on around them

    6. Mostly country, but a little bit of rock and alt.

    7. I am big into police dramas; CSI, NCIS, etc but also I get into ABC Thurs

    8. We like seeing movies, camping, eating out, normal couple things.

  • 1) How long have you been posting on the TTTC board? Not really sure - I know it has been over a year.

    2) If you have started seeing an RE, what prompted you to go? We had a post colitel (sp?) test done and it showed very few sperm

    3) Where are you from, and have you ever met up with girls from the board that live in your area? I am from PA.  Yes, there was a nestie get together with the local girls about a year about - there was 5 of us - I am the only one not pregnant or have a child - they all either have had a child or are pregnant - it makes me sad.

    4) Do you share your IF struggles with friends and family or keep it to yourselves? I am an open book - they only people who do not know is work

    5) What's the craziest TTC advice you have been given? ...and a few off topics for good measure...  I love being told to get a surrogate - HELLO we have MFI we do not need s surrogate.  I was told by a person working in a book store to go camping - she said it works everything - lovely.

    6) What type of music do you listen to? All kinds - I am really into folk music right now though

    7) What are your favorite tv shows? I love Friday Night Lights - it is the best show on tv - I also like Secret Life, Grey's, 90210, One Tree Hill

    8) What kinds of things do your DH and you like to do together? We are pretty boring - we watch Jepordy(sp?) every night together - we like to dine out - and relax on our porch together - see - boring.

  • Hi Topofthemuffin!  Ok, you have to reveal the story of your username!  I once used the email address purplefrenchfries@juno.com, and I always got asked the story behind it.  My best friend and I were trying to prove how much we had in common with each other.  Our favorite color was purple, and our favorite food was french fries.  The email was a play on that.  You have been TTC for almost as long as DH and I.  It gets pretty frustrating, doesn't it?  Is it expensive to visit RE's in Canada?  I've been amazed at the range of prices here in the United States.  First consultations have ranged in price from about $250-$500.  I've been told that our new insurance will cover the consultation visit, so going to an RE is looking a lot more attractive to me.  I didn't check your siggy.  Are you still unexplained or was the RE able to give you a diagnosis?  The only time I regretted talking about IF was when I was at work.  My boss thought she could sympathize with me because it took her a whopping 6 months to get pregnant.  *twirls finger*  Whoopdidoo.  I get sucked into watching ANTM when they do marathons on MTV.  It's like I can't pull myself away!
