Breastfeeding

Re-using question...

I know this has been brought up before, I'm just not remembering the answer.  I'm doing a test run with the sitter tomorrow and need to know.

If she defrosts 4 ounces and he eats only 3.5, what can she do with the 1/2 ounce that's left?  Can she leave it in the bottle and add the next feeding to it?  If so, does it need to be in the fridge and reheated again when the new milk is added?  Does she have to use the 1/2 ounce within an hour (which is what daycare places do)?  If she can mix it with the next feeding, is it good/sanitary to use a new nipple or clean the one that was used?  What's are the rules for this situation?

 Thanks so much!

Re: Re-using question...

  • Nevermind, found this on Kellymom:

If baby does not finish milk at one feeding, it may be refrigerated and offered at the next feeding before it is discarded.

  • Formula must be used within an dhour of being started but BM is differnt- follow Kellymom guidelines
  • I'm down with keeping fresh milk around for a second feeding, but thawed frozen milk does not keep as long.
