Car Seats

Hi, new to the Boards and am expecting twins (!) likely in June.

I am researching car seats and have decided to go with the Snugrides for rear-facing, but am wondering what to do about forward facing?

We looked at the Radian, which fits up to 80 lbs and has a slim profile - this is an important factor b/c of space (and possible future plans for more kiddos).  We also looked at the Coccoro, which also has a slim profile but fits only up to 40 lbs.

Question is - what has been your car seat progression with your twins +?  TIA!

Re: Car Seats

  • i would not by the convertible seat yet - wait until you really need it.  You can use the snugride for many months - some people use it over a year depending on how big their children are (my DS was really big so we switched him out at 5 months).

we have a Britax for DS now - they always get high ratings.  I am holding out on buying the conv. seats until we need them for the twins b/c a) they take up a TON of room to store- b) they are very expensive and i'd rather have that money in the bank than let BRU hold on to it, and c) things get recalled, ratings change, etc - best to wait and have the most current info when you are actually about to start using them.

they can not be turned forward until they are 1 y/o AND 20lbs, and it is considered safer to do extended rear facing. We kept DS rear facing until he was 18mos - no problems- and he was big.  But again- no need to think about that yet since you will have many months to use the snugrides, which are a great seat choice (it's what we have).

  • Not there yet but, the Radian can also be rear facing once your kids outgrow the Snugrides (or get too heavy to carry in them).  I have a two year old and will likely end up with 3 Radians to have them 3 in a row when the twins end up in convertibles.

  • i've heard good things about the radians, esp because of the size. but you have plenty of time to worry about this - which is good, you can wait for the best deal!

i have the fisher price safe voyage seats. not small, but we like them.

  • Agree with PP.  Hold off until you need them.  For what it's worth, we have the Evenflo Triumph Advance seats and I super-duper love them.
