Anyone deliver at OHSU?

How was it? What was it like??

Re: Anyone deliver at OHSU?

  • I will be delivering in early June, as is a friend and my SIL. I can post our experiences for you then.

I see Dr Lochner in Family Medicine. I really like her! She's calm and informative. Plus, I love using a family medicine doc because of the continuation of care (she was my primary doc before, she's handling the pg, and she'll care for me and baby hopefully for years to come).

If you're interested in OBs, I heard good things about Dr Adams. I was considering seeing Dr Bednarek, because I went to school with her and thought she was great. She's smart, thoughtful, and kind (and has a good sense of humor).

Also, I've heard wonderful things about the Midwifery clinic! If I didn't already have a FM doctor that I liked, I probably would have gone that route.

Let me know if you have any other questions about OHSU. They have a free tour, if you just want to check it out. If you want, I can find out the names of who my SIL and friend are seeing. My SIL is also at the Family Medicine clinic, and my friend is seeing an OB (I think).

  • I did. It is a great hospital. I think the doctors and nurses are amazing individually however our experience was a bit taxing. We were there for six days with a unexpected c-section. It was very tiring with the teams of doctors, students etc. coming in and out on their own time schedule. It didn't help that we were having problems nursing and my LO had lost too much weight. We had NO privacy and sleep...forget about it! When I did ask for the team of interns and the team of my doctors and the team of pedi's to come back in an hour because I had finally gotten my child latched right the answer was no. (Yes you read that right 3 different teams coming through at all times) With so many  different shifts and different nurses everyone was telling us to do something different each shift change. I only saw my OB a handful of times during our stay. I will not be delivering my next baby there!
  • I delivered there last June. My dr is Meg Hayes from Family Medicine. Love her! However, we only saw her the last 45 minutes or so before DD was born. Before that it was like the previous poster said, different dr's and nurses coming in all the time. It didn't bother me that much. The only thing that sucked was that I needed an IV bc I had group B strep and the guy that put in the IV the first time I was there did a really shitty job and had to try several times. It hurt! But the epi ppl were great and the nurses took great care of me, though they were sometimes hard to find. I don't think they have enough ppl but I'm not sure if you'll find it better at a different hospital. The only thing that might help there is to go with the midwives at OHSU's women's health center.
