Multiples

Double stroller question (from singleton mom-to-be)

I don?t post or lurk on this board, since I?m not a mom of multiples, but I have a question that I think you ladies could answer best. (I did go look at a few pages of posts for similar question and have changed my questions to suit).

To make a long story short, my parents will have two singleton grandchildren born within a week of each other. They will be providing childcare for both infants and would like to buy a double stroller. I'm hoping you can help them select a stroller for newborn to ~6mo. The stroller will need to be somewhat compact (enough to fit into their Honda Accord) and fairly lightweight (my mom isn?t very fit).

Which is more convenient - a tandem or side-by-side?

It seems like Combi strollers are highly recommended on this board ? but the babies will be in the Chicco KeyFit 30. Are they compatible?

Do you recommend an infant carseat carrier or an alternative (ie, ?reclining? strollers) for newborns? It sounds like even the snap-and-go strollers get awkwardly heavy with two carseats and babies.

Thanks!

Re: Double stroller question (from singleton mom-to-be)

  • IF the double snap n go will work with the chicco seats, i'd definitely recommend that. it is not heavy and awkward at all.

if you want to go with a regular stroller, you'll need one that reclines, which the combi does. it also has a built in foot muff so sleeping babies won't slide out the bottom. hee!

  • Double strollers just aren't that light, no matter what.  The lightest stroller around is the double snap and go, but the downside of that is that they'll have to get another stroller when the babies grow out of their car seats.

Most double strollers will fit in the trunk of the accord.  I know our graco duoglider and our combi sport both fit in our accord.

I personally really like the tandem duoglider, but there are millions of different opinions on this.

  • I also like my duoglider. there is a stroller bio in my siggy. hth
  • we were going to get this one

you can use infant car seats on this one (will have to buy an extra car seat "adapter") and it then comes with the seats to use later ....

we opted for another .... we wanted a jogger stroller

  • Chicco carseats will only work with Chicco strollers, and currently there is not a Chicco dbl stroller that accomodates their carseats. ?I have the Chicco Cortina travel system from DS 1, and then bought a graco Quattro Duo when DD was born. ?The Chicco ?seat will 'rest' forward facing in the rear seat, but ?will not latch. ?Most other carseats (Graco, Evenflo, etc) are all interchangeable, but Chiccos are not. ?

They will either have to buy two singles to use for the first 4-5 mos, then get a double umbrella or front-back, but don't waste your time tryinng ?to find something that will accomodate two Chicco infant seats. ?I've emailed Chicco several times, and although they say there is one in planning stages (was originally due in early 2008) there is still not one available. ?

  • Thanks for the input, everyone!

It sounds like it's either the snap-n-go or a reclining stroller. I don't think it's realistic to have my parents buy new carseats. I'll pass the advice on to my parents.
