I need single mom resources please

SadHi all - so as of last night it is looking like I am going to be making a go of this by myself. My boyfriend of 4 years and I are done, now I'm not sure what to do exactly. I know that there are programs that help single moms with getting a place of their own and help with food and all that - but I'm not sure where to start.... Can any one help me locate this info? I can't afford to do this on my own and abortion or adoption isn't an option for me personally. I live in the Portlant Oregon area if anyone knows of any thing I would really really appreciate it. Thanks

  • there are two places you can go... Your OB should be able to give you information on some sort of "moms" program to help you.  If they can't help you, try going to your county's Department of Social Services.  They can help you there.

  • If you don't have a good insurance Planned Parenthood offers an insurance of sorts that can be really helpful. ?I used it toget free birth control when I was in high school.

As far as WIC checks go, they help to pay for food staples as long as your income is less than about 33,000 a year. ?You'll have to check with your local .gov site to sign up for it.

You might also qualify for Medicaid or Medicare both of which pay for everything while you're pregnant but the income requirements are pretty low.

    Good luck to you.?

  • I just googled a couple of sites that I think might be able to help:

www.oregon.gov/DHS/ (oregon dept of social services)

www.fns.usda.gov/wic/ (food program for low income families)

I'm sorry to hear about the hardships you're currently going through. I was raised by a single mother and know how challenging it can be. There are resources out there. You just have to be proactive. Take care of yourself and your baby.((hugs))

When looking at the WIC income guidelines, I am?pretty?sure I was told that pregnant ?women count as 2 so keep that in mind.

  • go to planned parenthood first, they will give you info.  for anything like medicaid or WIC you will need proof that you are pregnant and they will get it for you.
  • I'm sorry about your bf :(

I wanted to say I live in Wilsonville.

  • Thanks everyone. Trying to keep my chin up!!
