Bday Gift - Sand / Water Tables?

I'm trying to think up some birthday gift ideas for the girls, who turn 1 next month (!!!).  What did you get your 1-year olds?  I was thinking about a sand or water table -- but are they a little young for one?

Here are some ideas so far (we're not getting them everything):

Baby floats
Sandals
Rockin' Puppy (they've really started liking rocking horses lately)
Clothes
Sand / Water Table
Inflatable pool
Fisher-Price Laugh n Learn toy?  (I hesitate because we already have the House, Soundstage and Learn n Groove table - they love them all, but the house)

Any other ideas?

Re: Bday Gift - Sand / Water Tables?

  • Can't believe your girls are going to be 1 soon!!! ?

?Here are some things that are our girls' favorites:

Step 2 Neat and Tidy Cottage (they love, love, love this house, and spend time in it every day)

    Step 2 Kitchen

    Bounce and Spin Zebra?

    Radio Flyer Voyager Canopy Wagon

Dino Play Hut (takes up a ridiculous amount of room, though, so I'd find something similar, but our girls love little tented play areas)

    Ride-on toys

    Baby strollers

?My sister-in-law has the sand and water table for her girls, and she told us not to buy it - she says the girls just like to make mud with it. ?Instead, I would suggest buying a water table - for example, Step 2 makes a Water Wheel Play Table that looks really fun! ?Good luck and have fun shopping for your sweet girls!

  • Thanks for all the ideas, Katie!  Which ride on toys do they like best?  Do you recommend one that has a full-size push handle for adults?  We got one for our nephew and my SIL spends 8 hours a day pushing him around on her knees (oops).

The cottage sounds cute - I'm going to check that out.  Out of curiosity, when did they start to play with kitchens and houses?  Mine don't seem into that kind of thing yet...

Yours are going to be TWO before you know it!!! Smile

  • I think that the Rockin' Puppy & sand/water table are good ideas. ?Here are a few other things to consider:

    doll strollers

    shopping carts/play food

    ride-on toys

ball pool (ours got the Bubblegum Playland...they liked it at 1 yo, & now LOVE it)

    bubble mower (for OUTside, LOL!)?

Also, they're little things but if you don't already have them, FP stacking cups & stack 'n roll cups are huge hits w/mine!?

    Hey Aimee!

We just picked out 2 random ride on toys at a consignment sale - and neither of them have those long handles that make it easy for an adult to push them around. ?That would definitely have been cool to have, as DH and I have spent hours hunched over, pushing them around the kitchen, LOL. ?

?They started playing in the cottage right after they got it for their first birthday -that was an instant hit! ?They love sitting on the chairs in the house. ?As for the kitchen, they also received that for their first bday, and although they started playing with it right away, they didn't really start the imaginative play (play cooking and eating, putting the fake plastic food into bowls and "serving" it) until the past couple of months - so I guess a play kitchen really doesn't get used until 18-24 months. ?

    Talk soon!

    Katie?
