Preemies

As of Wednesday, I will be a preemie mom...

I am scheduled for a c-section Wednesday at 5pm.  They're estimating Peanut's weight to be between 3 - 3.5 pounds.  They haven't officially said, but more likely than not it sounds like IUGR.  At first they thought it was a skeletal displaysia, but her growth has been lagging especially over the last couple weeks.  She was 2.5 - 3 weeks behind when I was 32 weeks and she's now looking more like 4-5 weeks behind.  With no substantial growth between ultrasounds, they determined that it will be best to take her early because she's not getting what she needs.  I'm also on bedrest for pre-e.  I'm hoping everything goes well and she is just small.  They did an amnio on Thursday and her lungs are mature enough to deliver.

I'm sure I'll be on this board quite a bit as we go through all the ups and downs of the NICU and as she continues to grow.  All of your stories are so inspirational.  Thanks for sharing them with everyone!

  • Oh Ames, I'm so sorry to hear that Julie isn't growing on the inside. Sounds like your doctor is doing what is best for her and I'm glad to hear that her lungs are doing good so that she can come out.

I'm at home on bedrest also pre pre-e and I think that we might be delivering Miles on 3/31, a week from this Tuesday.

You all will be in my prayers!

  • Welcome! This board and the ladies on it are awesome.

My twins were early due to IUGR in Evan (Baby B).

  • Welcome! One of my favorite neonatalogists told us that age is more important than size and you've made it pretty far.  I hope all goes well!  Keep us posted!
  • Good luck on Wednesday!  My little girl had IUGR but they didn't discover it until they had delivered her.  She was delivered early becasue I had HELLP.  She has done so much better since she has been here than she did on the inside!

  • That's great that her lungs are mature, hopefully you'll have a short NICU stay.  Good luck on Wednesday!
  • Good luck Wed. and welcome.  Let us know if you need anything (questions, venting, or celebrating).
  • My girls were born at almost 37 weeks with IUGR, and I had the amnio to determin lung development. They were 3lbs 12 oz and 3lbs 13oz. They both stayed in the NICU for 13 days, and came home under 4lbs. They were only feeders/growers and had to learn to maintain their body temp.

I hope your little peanut does well!
