Fever w/ no symptoms??

Jax has been running  a fever since yesterday.  Other than that, he really has no symptoms of being sick.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or advice as to what to do or what could be wrong?

We've been doing motrin and it helps some, but not completely and not for the full 6-8 hours. :(

Re: Fever w/ no symptoms??

  • We're in the same boat! Nat has had a fever since Friday...no other syptoms, but is miserable. He is whimpering almost constantly. The Dr. said it's a viral infection and we just have to wait it out. We're giving Motrin every six hours. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them, too!

I hope baby Jax feels better soon!

  • Yep, I'm thinking it's viral.  When Gavin had that weird rash but no other symptoms, the doc told me that they've seen a lot of odd viral infections this year.  With one random symptom or a fever, but nothing else.  The only other thing I can think of is if he has had any vaccines recently?  I'd just keep doing the motrin and hope that it passes quickly.

  • This is my recommendation, and this is just a recommendation (from when I used to work at East TN CHidren's Hosp). We would recommend alternating the motrin and tylenol, because if one isn't keeping it down, then the alternating will sometimes be enough to trick the body into keeping him cooler. I'm sorry your little ones aren't feeling well...I have a cold myself, and I am SO bummed b/c I was going to get to visit the newest baby to arrive, but now I can't! Good luck with that.......
The Knot won't share my Bump Siggy, so here's the low-down: 4/27/07 - Got engaged! 8/31/08 - Got married (to my best friend)! 12/30/08 - Got Pregnant! 9/3/09 - Welcome to the world, Elias Solomon! 8/16/10 - Got Pregnant, again! 5/14/11 - Welcome to the world, Talia Hadassah! 1/14/12 - Ready or not, here comes #3 (EDD 9/27/12)
  • Polly did that when she had Roseola.  The fever lasted 3 days (another name for Roseola is 3 Day Fever) and then she broke out in a rash all over her body.  The rash scabbed over and was gone within 3 days.  I took her to the dr before the rash presented and they did all sorts of tests on her and decided she had a virus and sent me home to do the Tylenol/Ibuprofen thing.  If you feel you need to be seen, by all means, go to the dr but if you think you can control the fever yourself and wait a day or two to see what happens, you can do that too as long as nothing else is going on with him.

I'd call it in to the advice line, though, just in case, so that way if you do have to bring Jax in the dr is aware of your situation.

  • Is he just teething? I know Carter will sometimes run a fever when he is.
  • We had the exact same thing happen today.  She woke up from her nap with a 103 fever.  We gave her some tylenol, and she kind of "moped" around for a while, but then her fever broke and she has been fine ever since.  I'm thinking maybe teething?  Her nose was running clear snot too, and I know that's a sign.  Hopefully that's all it is for Jax.
