BC Question from a lurker...

Hello from another lurker!

My doctor didn't give me a clear timeline, so I was curious: How long did you wait to start TTC after stopping birth control?  DH and I are getting closer and closer to taking the leap, and I was curious about how other people did it.  Anybody wait a couple months, or just go for it?

My doc did say that if my body's not ready to have a baby, it wouldn't, so she wasn't too worried about having me wait for a set time.

Re: BC Question from a lurker...

  • I didn't wait, and I got PG the first month off BC.

  • We just started TTC, no waiting.  The drugs are out of your system in 24 hours.  Have fun!
  • I got pg on the first try as well, and I was on the pill for a couple years before.

  • I stopped in September and we waited 3 months before TTC. We got PG the first month.
  • We got pregnant the first month. I seem to remember hearing that you are actually most fertile the first month off BC, but that could be an OWT too.
  • Some people say to wait - and we did go off BC a few months before we were actually going to start "trying"...but really, you can get pregnant the first month off :)
  • I got off BC about 3 months before we got pregnant. We didn't "try" the first 2 months, because I wanted to get a feel for my cycle.  We got pg the first month trying.

  • We stopped BC and started trying right away, three months later, we're still not pregnant. I was on BC for 8 years. My cycles still are still around 5 weeks, when they were always 4 weeks before BC.

I heard the same thing about people being more fertile the first month off BC, but that wasn't true for me. So don't be disappointed if it doesn't happen right away. Good luck!

  • If you've been on BC for awhile, it might take your body some time to figure out how your cycle is.  For instance you might assume a "normal" 28 day cycle that is really 35 days, so you just have to work out those kinks.  GOod luck!
